    I am firefox and use their Privacy Badger as well as uBlock Origin and Facebook container the latter of course only works for Facebook.

    NoScript works well along side uBlock.  How long before websites have to tell you what other websites they are
    linking to?

    OP, that was not a virus, but a specially crafted web page pop-up that makes its-self very difficult to close in some cases.
    You can get rid of it by pressing atl+F4 which will kill your browser session.
    It is highly unlikely though that this originated from Amazon.
    And yes, it was the beginnings of a tech support scam whereby if you had called the number, a call centre in India would have proceeded to convince you that you had a virus, and talked you into paying them to fix it.

    As others have said, just use an add blocker or script blocker for your browser of choice to ensure you dont get this again

    Thanks to everyone who has taken the time ad trouble to respond/help ,it is really appreciated and i will try and download the ublock program today after lunch ( clue - might be back on this afternoon with more help required ) :|

    Well i have downloaded it and it appears to be running in the background ,i have an icon showing at the top of the taskbar ( i think that is what it is called,its the the one at the top with the site address on ) o hopefully now covered ,again thanks for all the help.

    If you ever need to disable it for any trusted sites just click on it's icon and click on the blue symbol.

    I know Domestos kills 99% of germs, but I'm worried about the 1% that got away.
