If you're using the disabled tax then you can only use the car for your son's purposes. You will not be able to use it for yourself.
To claim the exemption or reduction the vehicle must be :
- Registered in the disabled person’s name or their nominated driver’s name.
- It must be only be used for the disabled person’s personal needs. That means the vehicle can’t be used by the nominated driver for their own personal use.

Anyone can drive the car providing they have insurance to do so, the car tax doesn't affect that. What does affect it is using the car for yourself, rather than using it for the purpose of the disabled person.

No, road tax is completely different to insurance. You won't be able to use the car for work purposes if you tax it with the PIP award.

greggo3008 said:My son is disabled and just changed to PIP from DLA apparently he now qualifies for enhanced rate of mobility and now means we can tax the car for free its not a disabilty vehicle, I work 12 hrs shifts and my wife works part time to fit in round his needs so we both need to use the car at different times,
You can have 3 named drivers on there.
