I just keep thinking about it over and over and I can't get my head around why they would ask me to delete the posts if they intend for an investigation to happen

Perhaps they want to be sure they don't find anything.  That will mean they can go back to the complainant, say they investigated but did not find anything and the individual involved states he never meant any harm or offence, and apologies if any was unintentionally caused.  Case closed and everyone moves on.

Try not to over-analyse for the time being, let us know how you get on  and avoid all social media in the future.

    Did they set a time?
Did they say you needed to call them, or that they would call you?
If the onus is on them to call you, then let them call you.  Nerve-wracking to wait, but if you were on death row and they did not take you down to the gallows, would you walk there on your own?

True, they said they would call. It was very informal the call basically went like this "we've received a complaint that you posted comments on linked in which might be racist" after some confusion I said I didn't use linked in but that it may be facebook, she asked if I could just go on and delete them, she then said "Thanks I'll call you to have a chat on monday" no specific time was mentioned and no indication this could go further, she didn't mention this could lead to disciplinary action etc and the call lasted 2 mins and she seemed fairly pleasnt.

One potential scenario is your employer got a complaint - they don't want to end up slated as an employer who did nothing when they got a complaint about a staff member - so they have to do something so then can send back some bland reply about 'taking appropriate action'.  If this is the case they are probably irritated at all involved for putting them in this situation and they probably don't want to dismiss you or anything, just for you to be very careful they are never bothered again by such nuisances.

  • Good luck Adam, you don't sound like you have deliberately set out to cause harm.

  • Thanks guys, I'll just stay quiet. As I said they would already have a clear process and all the information if it was provided in the complaint, so there wouldn't be any hesitation to atleast advise of a potential disciplinary hearing.

I'll just have to hope and learn my lesson whatever the outcome is.

Don't  rise to a provocation and never say anything I wouldn't be happy to scream from a plinth at Hyde park.

That doesn't narrow it down much.  Have you heard the range of stuff that gets spouted at Speakers' Corner?

Sorry, I mean I will never ever say anything I would go on national news and say to my family

Basically I'm just not going to use social media as I did fine before it came along and I can do just fine without it.
