O/S Daily Friday 5 June 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning message.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge. DS2 settled and ok.
Cloudy overcast start to the day here, we had some rain during the night but barely enough to wet the ground - but more forecast for today and then over the weekend. Air is cool too.
Dinner last night was gammon, egg, chips/jacket potato, veg/peas. Tonight I'm not sure but I'm food shopping this morning so will organise something then.
Yesterday I did some chores and managed to get another line of washing line dried.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks for starting us off NMLC. The sun is now shining but evidence of overnight rain. The poor poppies look a bit battered and flattened, just as they were looking lovely in all their glory.
A trundle round, up and down, with the duster and vac today. The kitchen and bathroom got a good clean yesterday so only half a Friday Tidy is left to do. The remaining windows have still not been cleaned so another job if I feel the urge. But maybe not!
I have double great excitement in store for later today and can barely contain myself. DIL rang to see if I wanted the yummy fish and chips from the pub take-away getting for tea. They are so popular all orders must be made in advance and a set time for pick up is given. Ours is 5 p.m. I shall have my plate warming and bread buttered in readiness! My second excitement is a Tesco delivery! I have forsaken Iceland this week so I can stock up on the things they either don't sell or are always out of stock of. Will I be any luckier I wonder.
My first job now must be going out to feed the birdies. They are flocking down in droves just now and the table is cleared in record time. It's lovely to watch the baby sparrows getting fed. A solitary squirrel is now also visiting, it's ages since I saw the last one out there.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. Hope the abscesses are on the mend. Take care all and stay safe xx

Good morning everyone
I had a bit of a better night last night so I don't feel like a wrung out dish rag today. I am enjoying the peace and quiet before everyone gets up. My wrist is also feeling better so I will be able to knit some more kittens today. I have just ordered some little pink plastic noses for them which look really cute.
My sister is popping up today to pick up my mum's gargoyle and birthday card. I hope my mum will like it, the gargoyle has a very quizzical look on it's face which makes me smile every time I look at it. It will be so nice to see my sister in person after all these weeks but she won't come in as I have been in hospital so I am shielding for another week or so.
We are going to have ham and pineapple rice for dinner tonight. I have cheated and bought a cooked ham and microwaveable rice as I don't have much energy yet to stand and cook. I am sure it will taste fine though and I don't care.
The floors need vacuuming through this morning so I will delegate to one of the kids. Lee made some lemon and blueberry muffins yesterday which were delicious. Thankfully, everyone else thought so too so they are nearly all gone.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Good morning and thank you for starting today's thread nmlc.
I was MIA yesterday, by accident. I wrote a post and thought I'd posted it but then clicked out of the thread without realising that it had failed to show. So belated birthday wishes nannywindows and Ruby what excellent news.
I have had buckets out on the patio, looks very classy, and have managed to collect a little rain in them and we have had rain overnight. I tend to water veg only, and flowers only get watered if they are looking desperate. I don't use a hosepipe and although we don't have a ban yet, I think it will come soon.
I had a call from the dentist yesterday, offering me an appointment next week, it is on the other side of this big city and although I woukd normally use the bus, in reality 4 buses for the round trip, OH will take me in the car.
Last night's dinner was chili con carne with rice which is something I dislike, OH must have really wanted it. Next time I'll suggest he can freeze some for a spare portion, I did eat some but the birds have had the rest. I can still taste it. I am not fond of heavy tomatoey sauces unless they ate 'softened' by some cheese sauce or something like lasagne or bolognese bake.
I'm watching the clouds moving aside and blue sky appearing. The weatherman says rain later and that's fine for me, everyone here has brown lawns. Grass always seems to recover.
I have a bit of ironing which I might actually do as it might give me a much-needed sense of achievement and the bathroom is looking a bit unloved so I'll do that later.
Hope everyone has a good day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back12 -
Morning folks.I'm on the hoof again this morning, off to do Marks shopping for two elderly friends and DM.The decorator finished yesterday by 1p.m. so the room is drying out. I really hate the smell of paint and it tends to block my nose. I've got the windows open still.Good to see a happy TA again.Happy Friday to all.12

Morning All
Not too bad this morning but rain due later, the garden is enjoying it but I would like to see the sunshine back again!
Didn't really do anything yesterday, will try harder today. I've to collect the metal paint at last but the weather will hold up the actual painting for a while. I've avoided my neighbour who keeps asking if the job is going to be finished! I'll also take a trip to the fabric shop, they will leave my order outside in their collection bucket. They have been fabulous during this lockdown time, quickly changing to on line orders and posting out any orders, I've only found them in the last few weeks but will definitely carry on using them.
Have a good day, take care. XX12 -
Woohoo, proper rain and the weeds between the flagstones are leaping into action.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back11

Morning all
Bright and sunny here but much cooler no rain due today but some due tomorrow.
Thank you for all the good wishes re the chemo it really is such good news, unfortunately I had a bit of a shock yesterday when I went for my scan, I thought it was a normal scan on the op side but they told me yesterday that they have had another look on the mri results and seen something they dont like on the non op side so they scanned it and the chap said there is something there and would it be ok to take a sample and put a marker inthis is exactly what happened last time when they found the cancer, up to now they have just said pre cancerous on the right boob but it seems there may be a cancer, I get the results in 7 - 10 days and it it is I may have to go in for another smaller op
my poor boob is so sore and tender and i am wondering if I will need the chemo test again for that side ? I am just telling myself its good they have spotted it now, but I am a bit down about it tbh.
Onto today we need to have a quick tidy round (although I am not to lift anything) and I need to put a wash on. Dinner tonight will be a prawn and scallop pasta for OH and I veggie dd will have baby toms and mushrooms with quorn chicken, we have a nice bottle of white rioja, it was a celebration meal for no chemo but we will still go ahead.
Ta enjoy those fish and chips x
Hope you are all well xx13 -
Huge but very gentle hugs as always Rubes and then they make you wait for over a week to tell you the news
You are a strong lady so I know you will cope whatever the outcome. Give yourself a relaxing break today you deserve it and dinner sounds gorgeous so try to enjoy. thinking about you xx

Morning all! Windy, sunny, cloudy cant make it's mind upy weather this morning and still no rain. Boo hiss boo. If it stays dry, shelf making is on the cards, alng with a search of all the free and cheap sites for a sideboard type thing to put in the lean to. This means I can get rid of a butchers block type table along with a small cupboard we have in the kitchen to make room for the dishwasher. The house is looking due for a big clear out. The garage too, although there's not much to clear out of there except a rather large cooker [ gifted] that it looks like we won't be using/needing. That will also go on a for sale site. And a couple of mid fifties chairs. I would like to keep and restore those though. And a zimmer frame. My father asked me to take it away when my mother died and it's been in the garage since. Time to send it to a new home where it might be used.I had to rescue OH from a very large hairy spider last night that was keeping him pinned to a sofa. Honestly, it's muscles had muscles, so I used the jam jar [ bonne mamam size] and just managed to get all it's legs in it. Then I uncermoniously threw it across the back garden so it went for a bit of a flying lesson but I expect with legs like that it would have landed like a cat.And I have just found out I have my own stash of nigella seeds because what I thought were cornflowers [ and I knew they weren't because they don't look like them but didn't really think it through] are love in a mist which give you nigella seeds. 51 years old and I've just found that out. I'm so slooooowww.....Oh and last night, I made fish pie, I've been threatening to make it for about a year and finally got round to it. I amlgamated a couple of recipes, poached the fish in milk, bay and onion, used that for the sauce, fried an onion, added some cheese to the sauce and used the potator ricer for mash. Used the leftover sauce and bit more milk to make a parsley sauce for pouring over. I like lots of sauce or gravy with anything. |Good job it was nice because there's enough for the next two days too.Nels, how was the gravy? Ruby, yes, I'd have been a bit stunned too. Watch and wait, at least you don't have to wait too long to find out, it's usually two weeks...camelot, your neighbour is too impatient... AOD, glad you've got an appointment! TA, oo fish and chips! When our chippy was open before this there were always queues going out the door and down the street. I don't think he'll be able to open yet either, he's only got one door in and out and his fish and chips are so good people come from the other side of the town for it. Gers, need a picture ! I'm so nosy! Scarlet, how was the new toilet seat? Nanny, do you hve a birthday hangover? Hey all reading along, Fast and furious Friday to you all...[No, that does not mean you can go and steal cars...behave!]Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi11
