76 Pages

Today there are 76 pages of comps. In all the years I have been here I have never known it be that low 
MSE has definitely killed what was once by far the busiest part of the forum, and I don't think they give a damn 
It is very sad

A recent pandemic may also have had a hand in reducing the number of competitions, as companies pull marketing budgets to pay workers and stay afloat.

This could be true, but I also think we have lost 2 or 3 of our best comp posters to other sites 
Hopefully things may pick up in the next couple of month, but I doubt they will

Indeed. Sadly, this forum is my last port of call for competitions these days. 
I've always valued my weekends more than entering comps, so I'd finish up on a Friday afternoon, after posting between 100-200 comps every week (you're lucky if that many get posted in total over a week these days) and when I turned on my laptop come Monday morning there would  at the very minimum 40 new pages of comps. These days maybe 10 pages.
Fair play to the likes of One-Eye and others for keeping this forum's head above the water though.

It's also really hard to post comps at the moment as there is now a limit of waiting 4 mins between posts, If you break this twice then you get blocked for 10mins, as the site thinks you are spamming. This has made it so hard to post as it takes so much longer, especially when I'm trying to get up the #winitwednesday or #FreebieFriday Twitter comps. It's so frustrating! 

It normally means I just end up posting less after I've been blocked for the third time that day.

I post on other threads regularly and have never have this time limit imposed on me?

I first saw it mentioned on Site Feedback on the post here: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6149721/a-spam-blocker-on-my-account-really#latest. The person who started that thread does not post on Comps boards.

Could we just set up our own forum somewhere else?  I've dabbled with other sites recently but still don't feel at home anywhere, and I don't like this forum now either.  There seems to be lots of free hosting forum sites around, and if it was just a comping site we wouldn't use that much room would we?  Would anyone be willing to move to a brand new site if we run it ourselves?

I feel the same, the forum is not as user-friendly as it was.  You can't hover over posts, click to thank poster, check which comps you have entered when searching ...  It used to be so easy to use.

Is it worth posting a friendly 'petition' here, while perhaps posting a link to it in Site Feedback? It would be best composed by someone who could lay out what we would like, and perhaps offer a question or two about setting up our own comping forum elsewhere. You never know, mse might even approve and help us to move on, or even better, they might want us to stay here and reassure us that they will sort things out for us when they can.
