I admit, I was a bit lazy at first as I living with my boyfriend's lot, but when I moved back home £140 a fortnight was not enough to live on. I applied for jobs here there and everywhere with little success. So in April I was assigned on a New Deal Scheme where each week I would see an advisor and we would go for jobs we would find
In early June, my advisor recommened me for a job at their office in another part of the city as a filing clerk. I went to the interview and got the job! She felt this would be for me as I have so much potential and it would be better than shop work.
In 6 months I have gone from filing and archiving into a personal assistant for the managers at this office. This was originally a 13 week contract, but I have been kept on until May 2008 where from then on, they'll keep me on for good. I work part-time, but after the expiration, I will be going full-time.
A lot of hard work can pay off and there is jobs out there
True but there are also alot of people applying. You have to be the one they want. I think its easier to find a job if you are part of a couple and there are 2 wages coming in. For a single person and sole wagearner on the minimum wage you wont be alot better off financially than you were claiming as you will have to pay all of your rent and lose your prescriptions. Its called the poverty trap isnt it? Well done though hope you will always be happy i believe once you have a job it isnt easy to go back on benefits either. They quiz you as to why you left and if it dosent satisfy them there is no money for you. Its all on their terms mostly.:footie:0 -
I can recommend CLAIT, I had a business that was in trouble about 10 years ago. Went on the CLAIT course, went to a temp agency - took a computer test which was based on CLAIT info and got 100% in some of the tests!! Got a temp job that turned into a perm job and was earning £36,000 in my second year - admittedly including bonuses and about 10 hours overtime a week best thing I ever did.0

Ahhh okay. Fair play. I would also like to point out that I no longer live in West London and I have noticed how abismal the bus services are here (W. sussex) compared to there. 1 bus every half hour or hour and last bus at 7pm! Yeah, bigger places have it good sometimes.....0 -
just read the whole thread start to finish......phew!
is working nights not an option? the buses would fit in with that. it's not always great fun, but is a way of getting something, which has to be better than nothing?! even if it's only a few nights a week.....:happyhear0 -
