    Hi TD

How about looking for work that you can do from home?

The LEA have no legal right to monitor home educated children. That is enshrined in law.

This web site suggests it's not quite as clear cut as that. There is a legal obligation to provide the schooling and a legal obligation on the LEA to take action if there is evidence that this schooling is not being provided.

Therefore it seems that, if there is no legal right to monitor (which I agree that there isn't) this is a defect in the law rather than something which is 'enshrined', since without the legal right to monitor, the LEA cannot effectively carry out its obligation.

    I was not spoilt!!

I was p at 5.45am and by 6am walking to the local shop to collect papers for my paperround. By 7 I was home, often soaked etc, getting changed for school.
Oh yes you bloody well were spoilt .. in my day you had to get up before you went to bed and catch your own dinosaur for breakfast then you had to make bread into which you could place left over meat for lunch. Once done you had to catch another dinosaur to give you a lift to school but on the way you thad to stop off in Dover so that you could get some chalk to write on your piece of slate.

You youngsters have never had it so good

Surely this would be undercut by someone in India?

  • Hang on. I'm not trying to pry here.

'The dole' is around £46 per week isnt it?

How are you on a PC with internet connection? Is this all your parents stuff?

I know I couldnt afford my broadband if I got around £190 per month!
The wonderful, wonderful OU! They paid for my fees and gave me a grant that is big enough to cover a laptop, phone connection, line rental and broadband! I love them, I really do!:D

Apply to PGL etc. They will take anyone (apart from maybe sex offenders) and the job includes accomodation and food. Apply now for a Feb start.

I don't have any school qualifications (another reason I am with the OU- you can get into a traditional college/uni without GCSE's but it takes a lot of explaining)

Without any qualifications you should be able to access a lot of courses for free. Without Level 2 in English and maths you can get onto courses to gain qualifications in those areas. You could try your local Learn Direct centre and then study from home.
