Puffin Travel Insurance decline claim

Just received message from my travel insurance company (Puffin Insurance). Says "I regret to inform you that the details surrounding your claim simply do not fall within term of your contract and as a result the insurance will not be able to reimburse you for your losses."  Small print on policy displays " No cover is provided under this section for;
• the fear of an epidemic, pandemic, infection or allergic reaction.
• your disinclination to travel or any circumstance not listed above.
• your carrier’s refusal to allow you to travel for whatever reason.
• the cancellation of your trip by the tour operator. (I booked hotel, flight, transfer separately)
• a previously diagnosed condition of any close relatives, your travelling companion, the person you are intending to stay with, or a business associate.
• your failure to obtain the required Passport, ESTA, Visa, vaccinations or inoculations in time.
• the advice or recommendation of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office applicable at the time of your departure."
Can anyone offer any help at all?

  • Hi alanwils, not enough info like when your holiday is due for, was it cancelled, has it yet to arrive, how did you pay? who did you book with that sort of thing.   Obviously the insurance you took out excluded pandemics so nothing much you can do about that unless it wasn't on the original terms and conditions?  (I had same problem with insurance I took out because I wasn't looking for 'pandemics' at time)

    If your holiday has been cancelled then there may be other avenues for you to go down.

    Holiday was booked separately - not package. Ryanair cancelled 16th May; hotel (Melia - Benidorm) cancelled a few days later and coach-transfer (Hoppa) never sent any notification, apart from page display on their website. Holiday was due for yesterday (3rd June).

    Ryanair should refund you.  I believe you do not have to accept vouchers or rebooking.  Keep at them.     Hotel - try a chargeback with your bank as not receiving goods you paid for i.e. they cancelled,  if hotel refuse to refund you (you have to try them first I believe) and again for the transfer (assuming you paid by card?).   If a chargeback is unsuccessful and you paid by credit card you can try a section 75.

    I am sorry I don't have all the links to these and if I am missing something I am sure someone else will jump in to advise further.  Good luck but am sure you won't lose all your money.   Very stressful times for everyone.
