Sunshine_girl2 said:Just a note on the cakes , I have ordered 2 cakes recently from a family member , she charged me £45 , so I think your £40 is very reasonable. Sometimes people want things for nothing because they are family. I hope you get a lie in today after your long days. I have a DD who is a nurse and long days used to see her in bed very late after she finished them. What did your DD decide to do at college in the end . She has done really well getting a Saturday job , maybe encourage her to save a little bit of her wage . Have a restful day .
I really love my job. I get to work with babies but September as a general rule is always super busy, throw Covid in the mix where staff are having to isolate if they have a cough until the swab comes back makes it even harder.
My cousin never did get back to me about the cake so I’m assuming she doesn’t want it. Her loss I suppose. I enjoy making them but refuse to do so for a loss.
DD has had to resit her English GCSE so is doing that Biology and Media studies this year. Next year she wants to do BTechs in health & social care and Applied sciences as she is now saying she wants to be a nurse. I have suggested she try and get a health care assistant job on the bank or agency. This would allow her to earn money whilst basically choosing when she is available to work (and it would be more than minimum wage) and give her an idea of what to expect if she chooses to carry on with the idea of becoming a nurse.0 -
I think you are right to charge for your cakes. People don't realise how much ingredients cost let alone the time involved. Good your DD1 has a job. My 2 DDs both worked part time from 16 alongside sixth form and university and gives them a taste of working life and managing their own money. Enjoy your roast. My DD2 is cooking one for us today.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. Not written in a while. Been working loads of long days. There is loads of extras in work but I’m shattered at the minute so have only done 1 extra shift at the beginning of the week. Being on my feet for 13+ hours a day plus wearing PPE is a killer, especially seeing as I am so overweight.
I have 4 days off on the run next week so may pick up some extras then if there’s any available.
Ive decreased the overdraft that we have from £2000 to £1000 and hopefully we won’t be the full amount overdrawn by the end of the month so we can decrease it again.
The 3 credit cards are decreasing each month.
I have been spending a bit of money on cake stuff but I’m hoping that I can make some money from this which will be going into a completely different account so I can build some savings up. People I work with have said that I should definitely sell the cupcakes and maybe do Halloween and Christmas boxes.
DH and I have been seriously considering moving but know that the overdraft and credit card debts won’t help us at all.
We have discussed getting rid of our car which is on PCP until Dec 2022. DH has been looking into it and thinks we may be able to hand it back next July. We would need a car still but he has said he can get one via work on a salary sacrifice scheme for just over £100 a month.0 -
Just been asked if I could do a shift in work tomorrow but I’ve had to turn it down. As much as the money is really helping clear the debts I am not feeling 100% and don’t want to run the risk of getting ill so I have to go off from my usual shifts. I do feel really bad as I know they are short and we could do with the extra money.0

Well DH has had to book the car in for 2 new tyres so that’s £175 we weren’t expecting. Plus our oven which has been on its last legs for years is looking like it needs replacing sooner rather than later as we couldn’t get it on yesterday. Seems fine today so I’m hoping I can get some money saved before it gives up the ghost completely. We are pretty much limited as well on the choice because we need a Built in gas oven.
I could do extras this week in work but I really need the days off as I am so run down.

Another long day in work today so I’m shattered again. I have just picked up an extra 80+ hours work over the next 6 weeks. This will be such a great help as we can chip at some more of the debt and build emergency fund up.
i have also received orders for cakes over the next week which will be an extra £30 paid into my emergency fund account.
We did fall off the debt payment wagon but I’m determined not to let it get away from us again.0 -
Oh well just added to my debt again 😭 My oven has finally given up on me after over 14 years. I have just had to order one for just over £600 which includes delivery and connection as well as removal of old one. I nearly added it to the credit card debt but the place I got it from had finance options with one of them being 12 months interest free.
Im thankful that even though I have added to the debt we still don’t have to pay interest on anything bar the overdraft which I am hoping to get rid of as soon as possible.I am also slowly getting cake orders in which is a few extra pennies to build an emergency fund up.Worked an extra shift on Monday and have another one booked for Friday. These extra shifts are really helping with the debt issues as well.0 -
Received an email from the place we got our car from saying they may be able to reduce payments etc. As both me and DH were both off today (15 year wedding anniversary) we popped into the dealership. They basically offered us a car where we would save £50 a month but isn’t in warranty. The car we have is in warranty so we know we won’t be hit with any huge bills. The PCP is due to finish in 2 years so we have decided to just keep the car we have.
I think the whole idea of it for the dealership is either to get rid of all the older part exchanges or for you to then decide that actually you like the idea of getting into a bigger/better/newer car so will actually increase the payments. The old me might have been interested as well but not anymore.0 -
Well just getting ready for a 14 hour shift in work. Not impressed waking an hour earlier than I usually do cos I needed the loo! I could quite easily crawl back into bed lol. It’s not made any easier by the fact that DH decided to book a few days annual leave last minute, after I had already booked this extra shift. I wonder if he’s trying to tell me something pmsl.
I have baked some cupcakes to take into work. Not very money saving of me but I’m hoping the more people who try them the more who might order some from me, 🤞.
DD1 is still looking for a job bless her. She has applied for loads and either doesn’t hear back or gets “sorry but you have no experience”. Poor kid is desperate to earn some pennies.Just had to get DD2 a microphone and lead for her singing lessons and exam. They would normally use the singing schools but due to Covid they aren’t allowed.0 -
Work have decided to Covid swab all staff so I’m now sat here waiting for the result. I’m asymptomatic but would just be my luck to actually get a positive result and we all have to quarantine for 2 weeks which would mean 2 weeks no pay for DH and no chance of me doing extras in work 😔. Everything crossed 🤞 for a negative result.
Still waiting for a refund to do with the holiday. It’s £360 but paid to a Jamaican company. They are supposed to be phon8ng me but are saying that they haven’t been able to reach me. I have had no missed calls or messages on my phone so I have had to resend both my landline and mobile number. If I ever get this money back I’m planning on putting it in my emergency fund to build that back up again.
DD1 is still desperately trying to get herself a job. I’ve spoken to her about trying to do some volunteer work so she has something to put on a CV and can get a reference which might help her. In typical teenage fashion she just says she wants to be paid. Hopefully she will get something soon but there are so many people out of work due to Covid that it is even harder than usual to get a job.0
