I have been asked to recommend a phone and parental control software for an 11 year old boy.
6 months ago it was possible to get a Mi A2 for around £130. I can't see many similar deals at the moment. Maybe one of the Mi Note series? What can people recommend? Obviously it needs to be fairly robust. I think the Moto G7 has a glass case and might be a bit fragile?
I've done a Google Search for parental control apps, but I've not found anything that gives me great confidence in choosing the right software. Can anyone point me to a good guide or recommend something they use themselves?

I can't recommend a phone or control apps but I can recommend you tell the parents not to let him loose on a contract phone [IE not PAYG] without setting immovable credit limits and any possible links to their credit card

This forum is full of woeful cries of parents who failed to do this and then found a huge bill unwittingly run up by young Johnny buying Loot or whatever

As above and make sure all premium activity (sending texts and dialing premium numbers) are blocked, to stop any extra charges.

Just buy a good heavy duty case and use  a stick on plastic screen as well

Plenty of phones available that are second hand, some people dont like Amazon but at least you can inspect the phone and return it if it doesnt match your expectations.
Buy second hand and if it gets damaged you haven't lost much.

I cant suggest a phone but go for a network where you can restrict how much the bills are, Tesco Mobile could be an option.

If they get an android phone you can set up Google's Family Link. It will then tell you how long they have been on each app, stopped using it etc.
