Earlier today, i entered a mcdonald's drive thru with cars behind and no way to back out. Once i entered i realised the drive thru was extremely narrow and seemed more so than the usually narrow drive thru's. I cautiously made my way through until there was simply no space to get around the narrow corner. This forced me to scratch and dent the side of my car on a metal post trying to squeeze through. I believe this drive thru was not reasonable for me to drive through, without damaging my vehicle in some way.
Has anyone had a similar experience and/or can anyone give advice on who I can report this too? Ive already been quoted several hundred pounds for a repair.. : (
    Many thanks!!!
    What vehicle were you driving?
    What signage was there?
What width was there between the posts?

Unless you can show it is less than the minimum (which will be something like 2.5m then it will be down to your poor driving skills.  Why did you keep moving forward when you knew you were going to hit the post.

    What car were you driving?

Well strictly speaking you are probably required to report it to your car insurer as it is damage you've done to the car which many policies require is reported, regardless of whether you claim against your insurance or not.

You could report it to the drive through but I'd be surprised if they would pay for the damage, the post was a fixed object and you drove your car into it which makes you liable. They might ask you to pay for any damage you did to their post.

You were driving, you crashed. You are to blame. Good luck trying against the might of maccyds. I assume you arent the first customer through this drive through and you certainly arent the first to try this. No hope, no way.

im unsure as to the width of the drive thru as at this point havent measured it, but do you know who could legally verify this on my behalf, it did seem impossibly narrow more so than other drive throughs - Audi tt, dont recall any signage
    many thanks

Didn't you see the vehicle in front of you scrape the metal barrier?

If other cars got through ok then yours should have. The tt isn't overly wide. You may well need to pay for any damage you caused.

Perhaps some additional driving lessons might help, maybe on private land with some cones to drive around.

Make sure you tell your insurer about your accident.
