Is a credit card still worth having in terms of making me an ideal borrower for the future?

I’m currently living at home and have just lost my job thanks to covid 19.
Since I have a little spare time on my hands I’ve decided to focus a bit more on my finances, I currently have a 999 credit rating, a nice amount of savings and 2 debit cards that have never been in negativity. However I’ve never had a credit card and I’m just thinking that by having one it may make me seem a more reliable person should I (hopefully) apply for a mortgage.

would now be a good time to apply, given that I’m technically unemployed, or, am I best to carry on as I am ?

    Many thanks for any help
I suggest you wait until you get a job before applying for credit.

Now why would that need deleting? It’s good reading for anyone else in a similar position. Person A has savings, a high credit score, but recently unemployed, will a credit card help? Answer: most likely no until you’ve got yourself back in employment.

That could help a number of people - so I wish the op hadn’t deleted it.
