My dad got a Suzuki Vitara - 2016 model in 2017 for a good saving off the new price with around 8000 miles on the clock direct from the dealer. It has the 1.4 engine that's got a reasonable punch to it (auto gearbox) - and has a few nice touches to the trim. Comfortable enough, decent air conditioning, doesn't feel cheap inside, has a reversing camera, 4x4 for the icy roads when they come around, and I've seen them on PCP deals for very attractive prices. Definitely worth a look. The only things changed since 2017 apart from the regular filters during servicing have been tyres. No doubt it'll need brake pads soon, but certainly nothing has stopped working or needed replacing out of the ordinary.

Hi, I'm after some suggestions on what car to go for. I've been thinking/looking for almost 6 months now and really don't know what to go for. My price range is up to around 15k preferably on a PCP. DH has washed his hands with me faffing and so isn't interested in offering any further input. I've jumped around thinking of a C3 to Vitara, from a Picanto to an ASX and back again.
I currently have a little 54 plate Suzuki Jimny that has well served its purpose as a stop gap car for the last 3 years after handing back my NHS salary sacrifice lease car C4 Cactus when I changed jobs and now I'm after a bit more comfort and poke (anything else will have more comfort and poke than a Jimny, 2nd and 3rd gear uphill max - if you know you know 🤣)
So ideally I'm after something at least 1.2 engine, 2016 onward, 5 door, all normal  comforts, aircon, dab, Bluetooth etc. Not fussed about sat nav or cameras, preferably a level loading boot or not too deep a lip to hump overfilled shopping bags out of the Cactus was a nightmare for that and pulled my back a few times because of it. Something I can comfortably get 6 shopping bags in. I'm not that fussed on make or model other than DHs only input is no to Fiesta, Corsa, Fiat 500, or Clio. Don't have any kids to taxi around, do have 2 black labs that occasionally get in Jimny with me but mostly they travel with DH in his car (cage is fixed in his). I drive 36miles round trip daily and probably drive around 200 at weekends (pre and post lockdown) when we go to our Static caravan. I know it might sound ridiculous to some asking on here - I'm just a simple woman asking for suggestions🤓 and any would be great❣️
Could get a Kia Rio at around 12-13k for the "2" model, comes with a big boot, 7 year warranty, 1.2 petrol engine (quite nippy), nice handling, good interior/features (plug and play - iOS/android), bluetooth. If going PCP, would take the £1750 dealer contribution and get a bank loan to pay it off as 4.9% APR, cheaper to get bank loan :)

To be honest it's pretty hard to get a bad car nowadays and there's more and more manufacturers offering mad warranties like Kia do.

The reason these "mad warranties" are becoming popular is that it's very cheap and easy to extend a warranty from 3 to 7yrs, when you can write most things off beyond three years as wear and tear, not manufacturing issues.

Thanks for all the replies so far. I'm going to spend the evening trawling... I'm liking the Seat Arona, Suzuki Vitara and Fiat 500X (even though DH has said no to Fiat) 🤣🤣 if anyone has any thoughts on them?
I will say I'm holding out another couple of weeks however, I have a feeling some cars will be given away very soon too.

We are looking for a new car, a friend of a friend works with Lookers in a senior regional role, he said September is when they will look to align themselves with the 'new market' as he put it.

We are holding off until then.

Suggest a Jeep Renegade to him.

If he doesn't come up with the exact same objections, point out to him they're the same car built on the same production line in the same factory - just with slightly different cosmetics...

Should have added... Bar the EV the Jimny is the lowest depreciating cars I've ever owned e.g. the last one cost £4300 sold it four years later for £3600 with big miles.
I paid £1750 for mine in 2009, and got £850 for it as a trade-in against a new one last year, the salesman advised that I could easily sell it privately for £1000-£1200, I didn't want the hassle for £150 or so. Less than £100 a year isn't bad, before the covids struck, I could have sold the new one for what I paid for it after 12 months :)

I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

A friend sold his 4 year old Jimny for what he paid for it,

OP.  Stick with brand.  A Suzuki SX4 may be cheaper than a Vitara and both will be reliable.

Seems he was right, Lookers making 2000 staff redundant to reshape the business according to the BBC.
