Replacement engine failed after 4 years (VW).

You can get it changed but a lot of people don't. Be interesting to know if OPs V5C engine number matches. OP could get another replacement engine but there's normally an element of risk in that you don't know the history or state of the replacement engine. I would never knowingly buy a second hand car with a replacement engine.0

I do agree that great caution is needed as any type of reconditioned engine may mean "dragged out of the nearest breakers, pressure washed and painted silver"0 -
