I can recommend the Ethical Consumer (magazine and/or website) for useful info on the relative ethical positions of companies. It lets you drill rather deeper into the detail than just country of origin but includes plenty of factors. As this involves more effort we tend to use it mainly for larger items - though everyday items are mainly UK sourced/produced anyway.
