Editing an issue for submission

When editing a submission I get a red alert saying "one character short" which I don't understand or what I am required to do to add the thread for discussion.  Can someone advise me how to proceed.  Thanks

Erm...do you mean when editing your own post? Or do you mean replying to a post or thread? Or do you mean when you quote another poster?

I think the rule is ten characters
That's why some put the "ten characters" text at the bottom of their (brief) reply! 😁

I think it's a problem when the OP quotes other posters, looking at their posting history their quotes are different to normal.

@sevenonine when you want to quote another poster you click/tap the quote button. The quoted post appears at the bottom of the page. When you type a reply you type in the white bit underneath the quote, not in the blue quote box.

If you type your reply in the quote box you will get an error telling you you are 1 character too short.

Can you link to an example please?

I can only see 1 reply by this user who has been registered here since July 2008 using this latest software forum that was introduced last February. That example is here: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/77237294#Comment_77237294

As you will see, they haven't actually quoted anyone in that reply.

Their previously posted reply before that on this site appears to have been way back in October 2019, way before the software change.

Your reply should be posted here.

A minimim number of characters may be required in your reply.  If so, you will be presented with an error message. If that occurs, just add some more characters to your reply and try re-submitting :)

So you're saying the quotes from the old forum look different to the ones from the new forum? OK, I didn't realise that but I do know that replying in the quote box will give you a warning that you are 1 character short.

If you wish to reply to a post that you are quoting, then you have to include some content.i.e. at least 1 character.
Anything you append to the quote iteslf will be considered part of the original post.
I think that rule was the same with the old software (although the minimumum content may have been >1 character)

The minimum 10 character limit applies when you are not quoting another post.

In the old forum the 10 character limit applied for any post - even one which included quotes.
