    The thing is aswell someone just pointed out to me,  is that the line you outlined might not be the official boundary, so a fence being erected there might need planning permission and could be deemed unsuitable for both parties

    A 6ft Fence does not need planning permission. What you are now saying is that the OP should dispute the boundary line which  will be far messy than having a fence erected. I don't think the OP is disputing the boundary, just the height.

    The OP's Neighbour is well within their rights to build a 6ft Fence on their land. The question is why now? maybe the OP has been walking through their property and the neighbour has had enough but don't want to confront the OP, we would never know. OP should check the deeds. If Light is the issue maybe getting rid of the Roof above the door and replacing it with the transparent ones.

    You could also try asking council planners what regs are re access to your house to move in furniture etc  And def look  at deeds.
