I think there have been some posts on here where an account has been hacked and the account holder has been held liable. Not sure how genuine they would have been or what happened next but it must be possible. There must be a few who have said their account was hacked having attempted to con people themselves. That said, if it is your own account you could only try it once.Daveym79 said:Has a seller ever been held accountable in such instances, even if they have been completely innocent? I understand that both customers are refunded and a sellers account is not affected should there be a hack but how does one actually prove there was a hack and that it might not be a rogue seller that has got someone else onboard with authority to hack into their account? I dont understand how this works if PayPal have to constantly reimburse customers when this seems to be a daily occurrence.
As for it keep on happening I can only assume it's at a level Ebay and Paypal can manage. If it works out at, say, 2% or less which I expect it does, then it's just put down to shrinkage.

I found something in a New Year sale a couple of years ago. It was sold by Amazon and was quite a heavy item that was under £10 with Prime shipping. The only problem was that delivery was 3 months. So I took a gamble, the worst that could happen was it wouldn't arrive and I'd lost nothing. I was surprised when it turned up some time in March.fred246 said:I have just bought an item that was ridiculously cheap on Amazon. Good feedback. Reputable company. I thought it was too good to be true but worth a go. When it arrived they had paid more to post it than I had paid for the whole item. They must have made some sort of mistake but still honoured it.

I have been looking for a sun lounger on eBay, but the search is bringing up loads for less than £20. I did order one with the thinking that if it’s too good to be true it probably is, and within a few hours ebay emailed me to say I’d ordered from a hacked account and I had my money refunded. My problem now is that I don’t actually have a clue which ones are genuine!0

There's not that many about. Asda, Aldi, Wilko's have had some in the lower price brackets. Argos is a waste of time looking at. They show everything as in stock but it's unavailable when you click to buy it.Littleredteapot said:I have been looking for a sun lounger on eBay, but the search is bringing up loads for less than £20. They seem to have removed the "hacked account" option from the report this post.

Yep they do make it difficult to report items sometimes. Do they still have a scheme where they invite people who have knowledge
in certain area's where you get better reporting options?

I've not heard of it but I don't bother much with Ebay, I haven't been on a forum there in years, I haven't even checked if they still exist.forgotmyname said:Yep they do make it difficult to report items sometimes. Do they still have a scheme where they invite people who have knowledge

I remember when they brought it in and something went awry.
Neither Ebay or Amazon seem to give any weight to sellers or even buyers with long term knowledge of their sites. If I have a problem with Amazon they usually cut and paste the solution that someone with 15 years pro selling experience on there would already know. Harnessing that experience should be invaluable to them but doesn't appear to be valued.

And their only recent feedback :Scammer won’t respond to messages avoid at all costSUNMER 3 Seater Garden Swing Chair Heavy Duty Bench With Detachable Canopy199 sold at £15 a go looks like a nice earner if they have managed to remove most of the funds from Paypal. Not banned yet though.

It's unlikely their only scam but if it was you potentially have 199 victims conned out of £15. That's potentially a lot of offences. Obviously that's if someone like me did it, as a UK citizen that could get caught. I wouldn't like to risk 15 years in jail for £3000. Again I know there is most likely much more to this than that.molerat said:And their only recent feedback :Scammer won’t respond to messages avoid at all costSUNMER 3 Seater Garden Swing Chair Heavy Duty Bench With Detachable Canopy199 sold at £15 a go looks like a nice earner if they have managed to remove most of the funds from Paypal.
