Receipt of Payment, Certificates of Insurance but no funds taken - Am I covered?

Options

Hi all, First post on here but a regular reader on the forum which seems to be a fountain of knowledge. Im hoping some can offer advice on the below....

Back in Feb I took out a site insurance policy with a broker for a self-build I am undertaking, to commence in February. I paid over the phone, was issued a receipt stating payment received with thanks, and was sent all the certificates of insurance for the Aviva policy.

I have today (June 1st) received a request for payment from the broker stating that the insurers are chasing them for payment. Having spoken to them on the phone, they requested I check my bank account to see if the money ever actually was taken and, if not, could I pay the outstanding balance. Naturally, I asked have I actually been insured for the last 3 months and was told that I have. Fortunately, I have had no cause to claim. I do not believe they would have honoured the policy if indeed no funds have been taken - imo insurers will try any trick in the book to get out of paying.

I have checked the account I assume I would have paid with and no funds have been taken. I am yet to check the remainder of my accounts (and my partners accounts).

Obviously, time has passed and the 6 month policy is now half way spent. If the funds have not been taken, should I still be expected to pay the full premium, essentially retrospectively for a policy I have not claimed on and am doubtful I could have claimed against if required?  What would you do?

Many thanks in advance for any comments, pearls of wisdom or advice you all can offer

Yes you should pay the premium as agreed - you have been covered for the whole time.

Yes, of course you need to pay it. Not sure why you think the delay makes a difference.

Why on earth did you not check that payment was taken at the time ??
I would have thought it would be common sense to check something like this was actually paid .

As the OP had received confirmation that payment had been received, why would they check further?

    Your opinion is wrong.

Its a bit embarrassing for you that you dont know and haven't spotted this. Your money management really needs to improve.
If the funds have not been taken, should I still be expected to pay the full premium, essentially retrospectively for a policy I have not claimed on and am doubtful I could have claimed against if required?  What would you do?
You pay it.  You have a contract with them. It is only the method of payment that has failed.  Not the contract.    They can  lodge a cancellation due to non-payment on your record which would require you to declare that on all insurance purchased in future.
