If 1% of your tax is such an irrelevant amount then I assume you'd be happy for all your taxes to up by 1% - obviously with the added benefit of being allowed to pay by credit card.
... or are you just talking drivel?

Oh, poor government. They need brave knights to defend their honour on the internet...
Just in case you didn't know, it's MY money that govs want from me. They should be happy that they actually get any money from me, don't you think? They should allow all forms of payments, perhaps even in bitcoin (since they are happy to grab your capital gain tax even for that).

If you're that unhappy about paying taxes, move to a tax haven? No one is standing in your way.

How do we apply to join this utopian world of no taxes ?

Paying with a credit card is not YOUR money - it's the credit card's money. You might have the finance to pay for the credit card - but at the point of payment - it's not YOUR money.  All forms of payments? maybe they should start taking livestock as payment? Or maybe potatoes? It's all down to a combination of cost (higher percentage charges on your credit card) and partly that they wouldn't want to be seen as getting you into debt to settle a debt - so actively encourage you to only use money that is YOURS. Not everyone has the means to settle their credit card immediately.

Is it not also arguable that paying tax by credit card would be a cash advance, and therefore subject to additional charges by the credit card issuer? TBH, I'm a bit surprised that I can pay my road tax without this issue arising.

It's the money I need to pay back to the CC company. To HMRC it makes no difference if the money was mine or someone else's at the time of the payment. Livestock? I was talking about generally accepted payment methods obviously. But hey, why not to make silly exaggerations if we can.

It's very nice of them that they don't want you to go into debt, but what if you don't have enough money to pay the tax. Then they are usually not so friendly I guess. DVLA for example, allow you to pay by monthly direct debits for your vehicle tax. It's then significantly more expensive than if you paid for a whole year in just one payment. Basically the same as CC interest which they didn't want you to pay. Actually, they don't want you to pay it to someone else, but they are happy to charge you as much as they can.

I think this thread has gone a bit off topic - perhaps it's time for it to be closed?

OMFG... Who talks about paying NO TAXES?

What kind of weird mental processes can ever turn a sentence "They should be happy that they actually get any money from me" into "utopian world of no taxes".

Why should it be a cash advance? I would say a bill payment.

Same as for the Noodleman. I see it can be super difficult for some of you, but please, at least try to understand what you are reading.

Both of you are talking an irrelevant nonsense about paying no taxes whereas I was talking about having more options to pay it. And I said that gov should be happy to get money from me at all, which is true. I could as well be unemployed, living on the dole like some people do.
