Sunshine Scammers

Just about every entry for sun lounger at the moment appears to be a scam.
Hundreds of people buying items stupidly cheap from sellers with 1 item for sale, limited feedback etc.
Clearly if you know your eggs hacked accounts.
This ones literally sold nearly 2000 today.
How long before ebay sort this rubbish

Queue the posts - has anyone had their post delayed.  I've ordered something from Tarzana and it hasn't arrived yet.

Ebay yes should sort this sort of scamming - it is as old as the hills.
The buyers, should also be given a reality shot and realise due diligence.

I put every sun lounger in ebay in buy it now cost order.
I counted 100s of hacked listings on top of this one.  Got to £59.99 before anything trustworthy

I assumed the "seller" would have had a few email alerts by now that would indicate their account was "compromised"

The seller has had the account hacked, which usually means a new email address to avoid any hint of being found out.

Likely too that the email was hacked, most people tend to be poor with password protection.

The buyers will get their money back, the seller will get their account back and the likliehood is that some funds have gone to the bank of wherever, never to be returned.  It just means all the fees go up.   Rinse and repeat.
  • I had my account hacked late last year and only because I had just 3 pages of items for sale did I notice 1 hacked listing sitting within them. It was a brand new wide screen TV for sale. At the time all my items listed were used vinyl records so this particular listing stuck out and I almost had a heart attack. What made it worse is I noticed it whilst out and looking on my phone. The ebay app was being temperamental so I couldn't alter or edit the listing until I was at home. I could see there had been no sales but my worry was the price was about a 1/10th of its retail price and there were multiple quantities listed within the 1 listing so I was praying that nobody came across the listing and purchased from it.

The item said shipped from France but none of my addresses within eBay had been altered and my PayPal bank details had not been compromised so I dont know how this scam would have worked as any purchase would I assume have gone into my PayPal account.

I managed to delist the item and spent the night changing every password across all sites used then rang ebay the next day who were very helpful but mentioned my email may have been compromised. The password is impossible as it's really odd and long and I've never opened or replied to any dodgy websites. Any eBay emails are always responded to within eBay itself so to this day its really odd. It's kind of put me off from having pages of listing now as I prefer to have say a smaller quantity of items spanning a few pages that I can have a quick scan over from time to time so as to make sure they are all my listings and that I havnt been hacked.

Thats why I think the ebay review system is a total waste of space.  Review is a different item from a different
seller and even a different country in this case.

At least one review for a seller with over 1/2 million positive feedback. Their product is almost 10x more expensive compared
to the one mentioned in the OPs post. So why is a £15 item sharing reviews with a £110+ item?  (scam or not)

With a proliferation of these I'd guess Ebay has had some kind of additional malfunction as these should be easy for their systems to spot. They seem to all be under £20 though so maybe the scammers have found something out.
A few hundred accounts taking £3000 per day is a lot of cash. Even if 80% of them get found out straight away there's still plenty to go at.
I always find scams a bit sad, if those who perpetrated them but their skills to good use they could do a lot of good.

The OP highlighted account is 78k in a few days (72 hours).  Times that by a dozen, few hundred, couple of thousand accounts and hey ho. This isn't petty crime, this is organised and contributes to something very large.
