Cancelling contract?

Options
Hi guys,

My Talk Talk contract minimum term has expired and my monthly bill has gone from £19.95 up to £41.95!
I can't ring them to cancel because they've temporarily closed their cancellation number. I've been on their Twitter account asking for help for a week, all I get is "Someone will call you in the next 48 hours".

So, my question... As I'm out of my minimum term, am I allowed to just cancel the Direct Debit? I don't want to cancel it and then they try to take £41.95 out next month and I end up with an even bigger bill and debt collectors etc.
Can anyone tell me if I'm okay to cancel the DD on my end as I'm  going round in circles trying to get in touch with Talk Talk.

Thanks!

What is your intention going forward .
Cancel TT and have no services .
Move ISP  to another provider ?
After minimum term  you give 30 days notice .

I'm going to move to Vodafone as it's a lot cheaper. I don't want to be a TalkTalk customer anymore.
They aren't giving me an opportunity to give my 30 days notice which means I have to keep paying silly money for a service I don't want anymore.

You don't need to talk to TalkTalk if you're out of contract.
Just sign up with Vodafone and they'll do all the work.
  • No, I'm switching to a Vodafone 4G internet contract, not Vodafone Fibre.

Long story short, I'm moving house sometime in the next 6 months or so so I don't want a new contract or a retention deal from TalkTalk.

A 4G router I can take with me wherever I end up. I don't want to renew with TalkTalk or another provider and then faff around moving my services to a new address that I may not be at for long before moving on again.

If you are switching ISP to another one that uses the Openreach network (not Virgin) you do not cancel with your current ISP.  All you do is sign up to the new ISP and they manage the switchover.

Thanks but I'm not moving to another ISP, I plan on using a 4G router with a Vodafone SIM for the next year or so. I don't need any further broadband or landline at my current address.

As TalkTalk have closed their cancellation number temporarily, there is no way I can call them to cancel the contract I have with them and stop them billing me £41.95 a month.
I just need to know that if I take matters into my own hands and cancel the Direct Debit I won't end up in trouble and possibly a higher bill plus debt collectors etc.

If you simply cancel your DD, you will probably find that TalkTalk will put a default on your credit history, pass the debt to a collections agency who will then badger you for payment. Worst case scenario a CCJ may result. Best you try to cancel with TT methinks.

Thank you very much, this is what I was worried about.

Does anyone have any idea how I may be able to escalate this if I'm getting nowhere with the Twitter team?
