Missy’s family of 4, paying off debts, saving for a house and just trying to survive!

Day has been ok, OH had a meeting with some staff which has really helped his mood shift as we now have a plan! Got the children’s reports from school today. Roo’s was so amazing I cried. And May has tried just so hard. I’m so proud of my children. ❤️💕 Trying to find enough cash to get the fish and chips for tea as per tradition, I’ve got lots of coins kicking around so will use them. Money wise hopefully only need to spend £400 instead of 5 to get work sorted. Going to try and chill early tonight as want to gather my thoughts and try and come up with a plan tomorrow on restarting my business. So in all a positive day so far. Just having half an hour before the last class.1

Also trying to desperately book a stay somewhere for the weekend. Me and OH really need a break, especially because of this last week and we don’t have the children at the weekend. We can go on the motorbike, but finding somewhere is proving v expensive, but we absolutely can’t stAy at home as work never leaves us. Any thoughts would be appreciated.1

I hope things settle down for you once the business is up and running again.

Hey JWil, thanks so much for popping in. We really need somewhere self catering to keep the costs down. I just want to lock us away in a tiny house in the middle of the countryside and not see anybody. But it’s proving very difficult, we don’t even care where we go as long as it’s not Scotland as that’s a little too far. I’ve messaged a couple of places and I’m awaiting a reply. So up early for the early class, I do hate Tuesdays! Just sat drinking my coffee making my body wake up. Food today, children will have toast and I’ll have porridge for breakfast, OH will probably have both. I’m going to have sandwiches for lunch and jury is still out on dinner, fajitas/bolognese/risotto? Who knows! Didn’t have fish and chips last night, ended up being tuna jackets with spinach and HM bread a friend kindly baked us just to save some pennies. Nothing much to report on money front, still need to do budgets and go through bank though. Desperately need to do some more washing but weather is just so changeable. House is nice and clean as OH has OCD and has to clean when stressed so he cleaned the whole house. I’m no longer allowed to hoover clean the bathrooms as I don’t do it properly!!!! Never mind. I can live with that. Need to stop yawning and drink my coffee and try and wake myself up!1

Unfortunately places to stay will be expensive at the moment as they are in great demand. You say you need to get away, do you? For the whole weekend. I know it sounds idyllic to be in the middle of no where for a weekend but at what cost when you haven’t budgeted for it? Could you not go on a long day trip somewhere on the bikes and not stay over but get back later. Or go somewhere and spend time in the countryside and then go in to a town later on and stay in a travel l0dge as jwil suggested?I’ve often found weekends away quite expensive even in SC type places, which you think will owe the cost down but they don’t as a) they’re expensive to start with, particularly in the current climate and b) you then treat yourselves to extra food etc.. which also adds up.I would have been seriously unimpressed with the fingers in the ears at the beach situation! You seem to be doing so much, make sure you take care of yourself.Hope work is a little less stressful today.1

Hi @Missymoo - just catching up on your diary. I am going to go against what others have said and I think in these circumstances a treat stay away will probably do you and OH the world of good. Maybe on this occasion set yourself a budget and just 'close your eyes'. I really believe sometimes you just need to invest in yourself. When I was with hubby I was very frugal and it blew up in my face and I left the house with very little and my new partner has taught me that its good to be frugal but you also need to live too. You are both hard workers so you will get there.2025 financial goals & challenges!

Hey, sorry I’ve been quiet. I’ve had lots going on with work etc.
Thank you Purple, I love the way you’re very much the voice of reason and say it like it is. And of course you’re right. We could just stay at home. But life is awful at the moment. We’re so stressed and taking it out on eachother, we just don’t stop. People call round all the time and Because we work from home it Is just relentless. Last time we holidayed at home we redid the loft and OH played on the XBOX where as when we went away for a weekend before. We came back completely refreshed, closer and So much less stressed.
Thanks Clarissa, I appreciate it. We really do need a break.
I’ve managed to book a cheap house in Yorkshire, OH has paid half, and I have £1000 in my emergency/extra income pot, so have paid it out of there. I’m going to shop at Tesco and buy some staple foods. We’re literally going to walk the fields and shut ourselves away, I’m excited. I can’t tell you how much I’m looking forward to it! We’re going to take books and scrabble and I’ve got lots of gin we’ve been bought as presents. I’m going to make some bread so we can have bread and jam for breakfast. I’ll bake some cookies and take my earl grey tea I keep for treats.
We’re going to leave about 12pm Friday and back on the Monday, we’re combining it with picking up OH’s work truck which fits in well as that was a 3 hour drive.

Your plans to get away sound great. Useful that you can combine it with getting the van which will save on fuel. Have a great time.1

Have fun on your weekend away lovely. We lovely “staycationing” at home but I do agree there is something special about getting away re really spending time together and making it quality time with less screens and chores. We love pottering about in the garden though which we can’t do if we go away! We had thought maybe doing a long weekend ourselves this autumn but think it’s unlikely due to cash flow now... we’ll see. Your plans sound absolute bliss I have to say!Part time working mum | Married in 2014 | DS born 2015 & DD born 2018
