I cant block a caller on my mobile, would O2 be able to block it

Options
Im getting a lot of calls from what is obviously a group of teenagers judging from the lads  language and fits of giggles from girls in the background. It has been going on at intervals for the last 5 days and nights. I thought they would stop once they got bored but they seem to be calling more often as the days go on.  Their number comes up as 'Private number' which I could ignore if it was not for the fact that I also have been getting genuine calls which come up as private. Today one from a concert venue regarding a postponed concert, one from a friend who rang from her workplace and I also have a relative in hospital so I cant just ignore the calls.
It started (my own fault I suppose) because I was out walking through woods with my dog when I found a quite expensive item in a case which I wanted to return to the owner. I used social media and eventually found the owner that way. But two days after I found the item, as at the time I had not had any luck from social media I returned to the woods and put a couple of notices up, one at each end of the route through saying I had found a case (but not what was in it) and put my mobile number on the notice. I was hoping the person may use the route often and see the notice.
But, these kids have got my number from the notices even though I went back and removed them when I found the owner and now Im getting inundated with calls which are either shouting abuse or pretending they want to claim the item.  Ive tried the 'Ok lads, leave it now please', just hanging up, answering and staying silent etc but they still persist even in the early hours of the morning, 2 or 3am and I don't want to turn my phone off in case the hospital need to contact  me.
I cant block the number because its a private number they are using. Ive tried to call O2  today but it just rings till I get cut off.  If I persist with ringing O2 is it likely they would be able to help or am I just wasting time calling them Im trying to keep my phone as free as possible so don't want to keep calling O2 if its not going to do any good.

You can block all calls from private numbers, worth doing at night maybe at least.

I cant seem to find a way to block private numbers only specific numbers. The problem is though that I need my phone to be available day and night at the moment.  I was hoping that O2 would have a way to get the number they are calling from if I gave them the times but its probably not worth their time anyway.

Let all unknown numbers go to voicemail, any important callers will leave messages. The fun will go out of it if they don’t have a human to interact with.

Click on the phone app.... then open the settings ( usually 3 dots) then you should have block numbers.... click that and you should then have something like block unknown numbers

Unfortunately that will also block calls from people who the OP wants to talk to, who call from a private number - not just these idiots.

I've had a similar issue with a recycled phone number on my work phone (which I think may have belonged to someone in a bad relationship) which resolved itself when I got one of the guys who worked for me to answer my work phone in his suitably deep (with a bit of put on menace) voice whenever a call from a private number came through.

Hence my suggestion that it may be useful at night

But that means the OP has to switch the block on and off - it is probably easier to disable the voicemail and/or switch the phone off at night.

All you can do is get a new number or hope that these people get bored.

That's for the OP to decide

Why not add the number to your contacts list and then block that contact ??
