Hotel refund timeframe

I cancelled my hotel booking on 23rd March 2020 and still haven’t received the refund. Does anyone know if there is a legal timeframe which a travel company must refund the monies due? The hotel was booked for 30th May to 6th June 2020.

May depend upon T&Cs but certainly by now.
Which hotel was it, how did you cancel, and how did you pay?0 -
It was a Hoposa hotel in Majorca. The company I booked with was TravelUp. I paid on my credit card so can always fall back on section 75 as a last resort but not sure when I should do that? I was thinking if I don’t receive the refund by the time the holiday is over.0

There was a cancellation fee of £70. Turns out they finally refunded me today! Better late than never!! Just need to see if I can get the cancellation fee back from somewhere now. Maybe my insurance?0

Yes it was stated in the email receipt exactly the cancellation fee. I have checked my insurance and the excess is more than the cancellation fee so that rules out that route. Maybe I can try claiming for the cancellation fee via my credit card company?0

Apologies if I have misunderstood but if the cancellation fee was stated at the time of booking as you have suggested, why do you believe you are due it back?0

I was forced to cancel due to FCO advice not to travel. Do you think I have a claim?0

It sounds as though it was your decision to cancel; had the hotel cancelled then you wouldn't have to pay the cancellation fee.
Ultimately it will depend on the terms and conditions of your booking. If the cancellation fee is correct based on these terms then unfortunately I don't believe you have grounds to reclaim it unless you have travel insurance that would cover your cancellation due to an FCO advisory.

You shouldn't get it back from the CC as you agreed to the fee when booking and cancelled.
If you want to try with your CC it's free, but all the hotel would have to show is their T&Cs.
My view is you won't get the £70 back, but it's your call at the end of the day.
