Tapi carpet wearing

evening,
 in short..
Upstairs bedroom carpets installed on November 4th 2019, purchased from tapi @17.99sqm

https://www.tapi.co.uk/carpet/homestead

undeelay was bought new and fitted by myself, the fitter’s even commented how good it was. (I’ve done it twice before)

Carpet is now showing signs of heavy wear in certain areas, see photos. The pile has flattened and looks like it has been down for years!!
Paid using a barclaycard, I’ve  contacted tapi via Facebook and have sent them an email which they will look in to once the store’s reopen (is this good enough?)

What would be best way to get this rectified? It doesn’t feel soft or fluffy underfoot anymore, and there are only two adults and one toddler in the house

We don’t wear shoes upstairs
We have a dyson dc44 multifloor

That actually might be your problem, not about shoes specifically but it can actually be bad for carpets to walk bare foot on them. All I can see from the pics is fairly typical of a high wear area.

I’m gonna disagree with this! We are talking an entrance to a bedroom, not a hallway.

I had a new carpet fitted in DS2’s room 2 years ago and it still looks fluffy and newish. The kids play on it, wrestle on it etc... It cost £200 for a room that is 10ft x 12ft (including underlay) so not an expensive one.

I would not expect a carpet to look so shabby after such a short length of time.

As you fitted your own underlay, I imagine Tapi will state this as the fault...
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Tapi's T&Cs make several comments about buying carpet, overlay and fitting from them to qualify for their 10yr guarantee.  I would imagine you installing your own underlay will be their get-out.

I’m not really looking for 10 year guarantee, is it too much to ask that it lasts at least a couple of years before it starts to look flat?

Surely if the underlay was an issue then the hallway/stair carpet would have been affected and the other areas?

Should I goto barclaycard and put it to them or should I wait for Tapi to come back to me?

Damp Sweaty feet will not do the pile on a carpet any good.
As it looks like it's right next to a cot. Do you also stand there quite a lot, thus flattening the pile a lot more than any other area, which really shows up on long pile carpets.

This was my thought also when I mentioned about being bare foot on the carpet and it being a high traffic area.

Yes this area is between the cot and the chest of drawers to the left. Going back to the Tapi website this carpet is apparently suitable for bathrooms as well as hallways so surely the damp sweaty feet argument or high traffic areas doesn’t stick? Also the carpet is described as follows:

“A versatile tufted twist carpet with tough secondary backing. Homestead is a 100% Polypropylene stain resistant carpet with subtle flecks that will suit all areas of the busy family home”

noting the words “versatile” “tough secondary backing” “busy family home”

We’re only have 2 adults in the house so we’re not “busy” by any stretch of the imagination, especially with 4 other bedrooms in the house!

    Any further thoughts?

Have you tried shampooing it?  Sorry to sound flippant but it's possible something might have got into the pile and is sticking it down.  It's unlikely to have worn out in that time, unless it's extremely poor quality.  I had new carpet put into my bedroom, not from Tapi mind as our local independent was able to supply better quality carpet at a substantially lower rate than Tapi (we went there to have a look), at the end of last year and it's showing no signs of wear whatsoever.  I try and avoid walking on it barefoot, where possible, and wear slippers in the room.  Wet cleaning would seem to be the first avenue to pursue.

    Does polypropylene carpet flatten?

Polypropylene can eventually crush due to heavy footfall or large objects. Frequent steaming and cleaning will help keep the polypropylene thicker. However, using polypropylene in high-traffic areas isn’t recommend—it’s more suited to bedrooms and living rooms etc.

noted all comments, however should they be advertising it as suitable for with words like versitile? and "busy family home" This is not in a high traffic area, there are only 2 adults in the house!! its not a hallway, stairs, landing or living room where we spend most of our time.

as stated we noted this in March but everything went in to lockdown so its only recently where we are getting back on this subject.

We shall see what TAPI decide to do once they open hopefully by the end of june. i shall update once weve come to a conclusion
