Finally decided on a phone!  Staying with EE but phone and new EE contract purchased through metrofone.  When I usually upgrade in store the transferring of SIM was done for me and my new phone was practically a clone of my last.  When the new phone arrives with a new SIM I presume that is the one I put in the new phone not the one I have currently in my phone that I got from the EE store?  How do I get all the info/clone/wallpapers etc from my current phone?  (Contacts are saved to google, whatsapp backed up daily and photos on SD card) Thank you

Yes I believe the new sim will need to be put into the new phone.
As for the wallpapers, Im nor sure how you can transfer them, have you plugged your phone into a pc and look for a relevant folder eg wallpapers and copy the folder or could you load them up to Google Drive ?

You don't say which phone, but assuming it's android (as all IpHoNe users have to tell us they have one! 😜 ) ....
Ensure that your old phone is logged into your google account and that it's backed up - in the settings somewhere.
I uses 'sms back up and restore' app, which transferred all my old texts and phone calls. Photos and apps will come with google a/c. When you get the new phone running, just open whatsapp and it will prompt you for what to do.

You say that you've bought a new contract. That may just be clumsy wording on your part. If you've actually upgraded through metrofone then you should be okay to put in the new SIM.
On the other hand, If you have taken out a new contract then this will operate separately and independently of your existing contract - you'll have a new number and be paying two contracts.

If you let us know the make and model of both handsets then we can advise about transferring things from old to new.
In general, as long as you are signed into your Google or Apple account then most things will automatically transfer across.

    I've just given myself a headache, that's what I've done :s
I followed the upgrade option through Metafone and gone from Samsung S8  2gb for £23 with EE to S10 45gb for £36 again with EE but through the online company.  Got details for delivery through today and there's a different phone number on the S10 paperwork?!  The paperwork says get PAC code but live chat with EE said this obviously won't work as I'm not changing provider.  So, now EE are transferring current contract to pay-as-you-go (which will take 30 days), then I contact them and they transfer my current number onto the new SIM. But if I went through upgrade option and gave current number with Metafone why am I having to go through this palava???  That's not an upgrade that's a new contract - as you said above! Plus means putting current SIM into new phone for 30 days then putting new SIM in, but won't there be a chance the new SIM will be cancelled?

Utterly confused, I could have done all this on the cheaper option of a new contract and not pay the upfront for the phone! Now have to pay EE and Metafone for a month...…. :/
Any pearls of wisdom would really be appreciated.....

So the two biggest android companies have inbuilt data transfer systems:
    Samsung - Smart switch
    Huawei - Phone Clone
Use those to transfer your data, from recollection Samsunf requires a cable, Huawei is wireless

"from recollection Samsunf requires a cable,"
Wirelessly using their "Smart Switch" app.. Works flawlessly (Samsung to Samsung).

Thank you victsingh, that's really useful
Just spoken to Metrofone.  New SIM has my  current number on it (as well as the number the SIM comes with).  All the upgrade is approved and shows live with EE.  Now I have to get back in touch with EE to stop them going ahead with the change to pay-as-you-go as they advised!!

Thank you everyone for your help, for novices like me it's a minefield out there!
