Misleading renewal costs

Hi, this is Mark, hope you can help
I called PO today 24 May to renew as contract ends
Currently pay £15.40, renew £ 18, if not reverts to £30
So renew for £18 then told as I didn't phone 11 days ago I would have to pay the £30 pro rata. The new contract takes 12 days to set up so you can only go onto £18 rate then.
I said but I have phoned to renew on my contract expiry date. It doesn't say on the renewal letter I have to renew 12 days before. PO say it says in contract from a year ago but not on renewal letter.
How many people are falling foul of this tactic? How much extra is PO making due to this technicality?

Fail to understand the post .Are they saying you should have renewed before unknown contract end date ??0

If I understand correctly, they are saying that to get a seamless transition from old contract price to new contract price, you need to contact them 12 days in advance of the contract end, otherwise you go onto the out of contract price pro rata until the new contract is set up, which is not immediate.0

Yes exactly. They say it takes 11 days to set up a new contract so I will be on higher rate. The renewal letter says nothing about this. The letter was dated 10 May and I received on the 15th which even if I had phoned then would still put me on higher rate for a few days. I had the renewal date in my diary so as you would think phoned them on that day. If they do this for every customer x £ extra they are making a lot of money1

Its rather odd but it is a resold product probably why the transition is not as others .

Hi JJ, this system is a way of adding money to your bill. If it doesn't say anything about being out if contract before the end of contract date then how can that be fair. This surely must stop. Even one day out of contact is not fair if you phone up on the renewal date. The say because of the cooling off or cancellation period they revert 12-14 before you actual renewal date. I am sure many people don't realise this.0

I'm not sure why you rang up right on the last day anyway because if they couldn't offer you an acceptable deal then you would have had to switch providers so would have had to remain on the £30 rate anyway in that case. Next time it comes up for renewal shop around plenty of time before the renewal date and see the best price then ring up and use this to negotiate with and you would have probably ended up with a cheaper price this way anyway.0
