Fraud on Asda Credit Card

My partner was called on the 15th November about a transaction on her card for about £750 the day before. They told her to call the police about it, so she did and they said they now ask the card issuer to contact police etc instead of the card holder.

anyways, they've basically swept it under the carpet, and its showing on her statement. She phoned them up today to ask what is happening and all they could tell her is "it takes 28 days to complete the investigation".

I got her to be angry about it and give them another ring, and the guy on the phone basically didnt know what he was tlaking about, and she should contact the "security department", which is conveniently not open till monday, which I find appauling given the time sensitive nature of this matter.

Is there anything she can do to make asda act responsible and interested? I got her to mention doing a chargeback on the transaction but the guy went quiet for about 5 seconds and said "oh we cant do that until the investiation is complete". Is this true?

The transaction was made with an internet furniture store in leeds, and they will not tell us where the furniture was sent!

Can anyone help? we cant afford to lose £750!

youll get your money soon enough but ull have to patient.
Save saynoto0870.com in your favorites, and stop giving companies more £££ dialling 0870 numbers when you can dial freephones or cheaper alternatives
call your credit card company, tell them that you want to leave, 99% of the time theyll lower your APR%

And remember, the fraudsters have taken Asda’s money. Ultimately, Asda will get their money back, and it’ll be the Internet furniture store that ends up out-of-pocket. But, for the moment, it’s Asda who are missing £750.

If you have a direct debit set up and pay off the full balance each month, when you next get in contact with Asda insist that they flag the transaction in such a way that the £750 won’t be taken. If Asda can’t reassure you they can do that and it makes you feel happier, cancel the direct debit and tell Asda that you have cancelled the direct debit. Then, pay the balance less the £750 another way. If the minimum payment that appears on the statement is more than the balance less the £750, it might be simpler to pay that minimum payment. Otherwise you could have the hassle of getting any penalty charges and credit reference agency black marks reversed. When it’s all sorted out and you set up any direct debit again, carefully look at the following statement to check that it’s been successfully set up. Any interest charge that appears because of that £750 should be removed once the transaction is reversed.

I hope this is quickly sorted and the outcome positive, it should be.

Isn't it sad that you are prevented from reporting this to the police? It could have led to early intervention and a better chance of catching the crooks, and it would also add power to your elbow, by showing YOU were treating it as a crime and reporting it in a timely maner. Complain to your MP, or at least ask ASDA for their crime reference number.

You are not always reimbursed for fraud.

Just about every week in the Press there are tails of banks refusing to reimburse victims of fraud.

It all depends how the money was taken from an account. (In your case you should be ok as it was your card details and not your card used(:

    Banking Code Articel 12.12:

Unless we can show that you have acted fraudulently or without reasonable care, your liability for the misuse of your card will be limited as follows:

If someone else uses your card details without your permission, and your card has not been lost or stolen, you will not have to pay antying.

Here are a few examples which flies in the face of beleiving, your safe and covered.

If I were you I would ask them to put a stop on the card and or report it stolen, to prevent further transactions.

she did this the same day.

However, since then two small transactions have appeared which they accidentily told us about (not on the statement)... we got the new card yesterday, just waiting for online banking confirmation so we can see whats happened as they now refuse to acknowledge these small transactions on the phone.

I've told my partner to consider cancelling the card altogether as she doesnt really use it at all and could be a lot of hassle for little gain.
