Ebay suspended my account indefinitely but refuse to close it

Hello.  I posted this a couple of days ago on the e-bay board but didnt get any response as its more of a sellers' forum.
I'm NOT an e-bay seller and I never had an e-bay account before. And no-one else in my household or who uses my computer ever had one.

Couple of days ago I found something I wanted to buy, on eBay.  So, I set up an account and I ordered it, no apparent problems.
Few hours later I had am e-mail saying my account was suspended, then one saying my purchase was cancelled.
The e-mail appears so assume I am a seller, but is very general and gives no specific reason for suspending the account.
Well, if they don't want my business, that's fine. So I tried to close my account, only to receive a message saying

"we can't close your account yet, because it has been suspended, restricted, or is otherwise not meeting minimum seller standards. Until you have resolved your suspension, your account must remain open."

So, I e-mailed them saying that they appear to have suspended my account in error, so I want them to close my account and delete my data.    (After all, they have my credit card info and they appear to be incompetent)  But I just received a reply saying that the account  "was suspended because the pattern of activities exhibits a risk to eBay and to its community" and that there is no appeal.

I  replied telling them again to close my account, but no reply. And I have, through their data protection page, also sent a message telling them to close my account and delete my data, but again no reply. Also tried phoning, got the same "no appeal, can't do anything" script.

Sorry this is long, 2 QUESTIONS

1) ANYTHING MORE I CAN/NEED TO DO to get them to delete the data

2) SHOULD I BE WORRIED THE ACCOUNT SOMEHOW GOT HACKED?

Thanks for any advice.

It seems to be like what happens when a bank suspects you of money laundering and refuses to tell you anything. But I don't know how I would be laundring money by buying a £25 vintage ashtray! My concern is that they obviously must hold inaccurate data about me in order to have come to this decision, but they are refusing to delete that inaccurate data.

Did you try and buy a relatively expensive item as your first purchase?

It says a £25 vintage ashtray in the post above yours, so no

I don't really get why you seem so anxious to close your account. You seem to have previous threads about banking problems, and mail redirecting , and you said in January you lived abroad. It seems to be possibly an ID problem .

Instead of fixating on them "deleting your data", you should surely be concentrating your efforts on getting them (rather)  to restore the account  to normal? If the account has been suspended it won't be simply because you set it up just to buy a £25 item though.

I suspect there is more to this than you are telling us and that your address or you yourself are on some kind of blacklist.
They won't be deleting the information they hold on you if they consider it a "risk to E-Bay and it's community"

    EDIT;
I see from your posting history that you have had issues with Mail re-direction and with various Banks. You don't see a pattern here?
Do you reside in the UK?
  • I take it that OP is an expat and has previous failings with banking and other mailing activities.

And looking at one of their previous posts, they are not on the electoral register in the UK (or weren't at the time) and if this is still the case, it may well have lead to them failing one of eBay's verification procedures.

You are correct I am no longer on electoral register in UK, but I was registering on e-bay with my French address.
Amazon (uk or fr), Etsy, etc have no problem sending stuff to me at this address.
The reason I'm not trying to get the account unlocked is because I read on the e-bay boards that they NEVER do this once they have said "no appeal", so it would be a waste of energy.
The reason I am wanting to get the account closed and deleted is because they must have inaccurate data about me, to have led to this decision. So surely they can't just refuse to either correct it or delete it?

As you seem to have a few problems like this I suspect you’re on the CIFAS database which thinks you’re fraudulent.

I would follow these instructions to see if they’re holding any data on you.
