Thanks for the info, Sinderella. Spain has been rather soggy in recent weeks, but is warming up now.

GfK sound good, pity they only operate in UK and Ireland.
  • When doing the TNS large supermarket, am I correct that there is nothing specific you have to buy, you will be reimbursed £4 for food, as long as you have done all the correct questions etc.
I'm getting older, and lifes getting harder!

With the Colourful Monarch pub shops where you have to reveal yourself, if you do, are you blocked from doing that location again, since presenting staff with a 'You've been mystery shopped' certificate does somewhat compromise one's anomymity... Discuss

Yes, I think the one where you get £4 reimbursed has a 'good enough to buy' list where you check off specific products as if you were checking their presence/quality to buy etc but you can actually buy what you like. I think it may be the case that for a different type-smaller -of the same supermarket with TNS where you get a £3 reimbursement that you need to buy something bulky like bread or cereal so that a bag is offered. If yours is the £4 limit, when I did it last week there were no specific purchases. I still spent £15 though, damned supermarkets and their wizardry!!!

Yeah this is why I've never given one out! It's a bit like sacking yourself; a bit pointless don't you think?!

Actually saying that, I've never had exceptional service from them anyway so no love lost there....

I've been doing mystery shopping for a few months, and have a couple of questions about tax stuff.

    1) For a lot of the jobs, it looks as if I am making a loss as I am only reimbursed for a purchase but have other costs such as transport and printing etc. These are mainly food related jobs so I get a free meal and it doesn't feel like I make a loss. Do I need to do anything specific with tax for this and will it be a problem if it looks like virtually all the jobs are at a loss?

    2) Related to the above, if I am making a loss in a year I don't have to pay any tax, is there any way I can offset this against what I payed via PAYE in my regular job?

    Cheers,
    -Jeff
