Absolutely - the key is that if you have to do a paper-loss job, you need to do another job that brings you back into profit. If you do all loss jobs, it's very hard to justify the existence of the business. Personally, I avoid loss-jobs, but for some I can see that the temptation of a "free" meal is too great. I think that the companies offering these jobs should realise that they're unviable when charging 40p/mile & 6p/sheet, but those who can afford to lose the £1 or £2 a meal will still do them and declare less to the HMRC.
I'm the complete opposite! I prefer to do jobs where I make an apparent loss to offset any that I make a profit on - every little helps!0 -
I was signed up with RE for about 6 months but there wasn't a single job in my area. Does anyone know if it is ok to sign up with more than one company and should you let on that you have applied to others as well?
Thanks0 -
Can anyone get into the Office forum ?, the error message I am getting is it has either been taken offline or been deleted."Dogs come when they are called. Cats take a message and get back to you" :j :j0

I'm working for over 20 companies ... and am registered for probably more than 30 or 40. No probs there.0 -
No, I get the same message. It happened before though, a couple of months ago.
Thanks, I have never seen that type of error message, so started worrying  I need an early night anyway, so off I go !!"Dogs come when they are called. Cats take a message and get back to you" :j :j0 -

Just looking for some advice. I signed up with a few of the companies mentioned in the past fortnight. Done my first RE job and got told today that I am no longer probationary so thats really good. Had a look on GR and says no jobs in my area but it says that every time I log in ???? Looked on GAP and cant seem to select my local towns from the suburbs list although I could the other day can you only select areas if there are jobs currently in them?
Thanks in advance for your time.0 -
Hi
I read the thread on page 1 and noticed that you said you were an accountant so wondered if you could advise me a little further as I am totally new to this have only done one job so far last week.
Dont know if its relevant so will give you a brief description of my circumstances. Hubby just got laid off a few weeks ago so we are on JSA for the time being and I am a stay at home Mum and currently pregnant. Dont really see mystery shopping as being a big money earner just something I always wanted to try. I get child benefit so I think my NI is covered.
From reading your post the one job I have done pans out like this I think
Income £20
Paid out related to job £15 on reimbursed purchase
Fee for job £5
Petrol at 40p a mile 10 mile round trip £4.00
Profit £1
Is this right? In which case the tax due would be 20p on this job approx so this is what I would be due to pay for this job at the end of the year? If I done a job in this town once a week for similar fee my tax at the end of the year would be less than £20 to pay as fees are always similar and so would my petrol costs be. Even then I doubt that I would get a job as often as once a week. Id quite like to keep doing it as it would give me something to focus on and the perks if they arent taxable eg free pizza or t shirt or whatever would make it worthwhile doing some jobs.
Sorry this is so lengthy but couldnt find a way to PM.
Also does anyone at all know how this situation would affect benefits as the income is miniscule but would it involve a lot of paperwork? As if its too much hassle may just give it a by until our circumstances are better eg hubby finds work.0 -

Congrats on your RE job - you should be able to select more than one job at a time now.
There's hardly ever anything on GR for me either, just keep checking every few days and something may come along......if you're lucky!
GAP only shows where there currently are jobs, but look out for misspelt places too. Also, a lot of the bookie jobs are there by street name, so have a quick check through them too. I usually select 'high street' as well, if its there (just in case it's my high street!), plus its worth looking for locality names and county names.
