Given notice on furlough...

Presuming the employment contract does not specify a longer notice period. For employers I've worked for the notice period has increased to 4 weeks as soon as the probationary period ends.Mrsn said:They can do this and have given you the correct notice to terminate the contract.0 -
I am not sure that I understand this comment.MrsO13 said:In actual fact they have been open to saying they haven’t even needed to use the furlough scheme but will still go ahead and claim it. Looks like I have just seen the true colours of the lovely company I thought I worked for.
The business has obligations to many different stakeholders, including the shareholders and the staff. If the business is eligible to claim the CJRS funding and they do not, then the management would be negligent in their duties to the interests of the stakeholders.
The eligibility for CJRS is that the business has been impacted by coronavirus and that the rules of furlough are correctly followed. If the business had cash reserves that have seen them through March, April, May, those cash reserves would still run out eventually. The financial resilience of the business (and protection of staff and other stakeholders) will be extended if the business claims the furlough grant where eligible.
I know there are many that will not like this line of thinking, but it is the reality.
It is still unclear why you are surprised that your temporary job has proven to be just that.0 -

Sadly, it seems that in many cases this will prove to be true. With the exception of business that had to shut any company that actually had to use the scheme are going to make the person redundant anyway. Most companies have just used it to help them budget. Any company that could afford to top up the pay to 100% did not really need the scheme.
