New contract or upgrade?

Just finished a 24-month contract with EE and looking around for a new phone but to stay with EE.  Have seen on metrofone.co.uk a Samsung galaxy S10 128gb for £36 per month, no upfront costs and 45gb of data, although in the small print it says some deals may not be available for existing customers  However, when I look on upgrades (other websites) it gives me the same data and monthly price but is asking for £125 up front costs for phones. Is an 'upgrade' while you're still within your contract?  Can't I now just get a new contract??  If I'm stopping with EE I presume I don't need to sort PAC code out?  Usually sort this out in the shop! Thank you

If you want another contract with EE then call their retentions dept and they will more than likely give you a better deal than the ones you're seeing for new customers, admittedly this may be hard at the moment. If you're actually going to move to a different provider you can get you PAC via text message and transfer your number to the new provider online who will cancel your old contract for you, I did this recently.

If you are happy with you phone consider a sim only deal. I'm with Smarty at the moment and am paying £9 a month for 30gb data and unlimited minutes and texts.

    Thanks both.
jnhuasd - I was considering to go SIM only but, unfortunately, in the last 3 weeks I've cracked the screen of my S8.  I've looked at screen repair and SIM only but by paying a couple hundred more I can get a lot more storage plus a better camera.  If I manage to not crack the screen on the new phone (after the next 24-month contract is up) then I'll be looking to do that next time.
Deleted_User - unfortunately EE are only dealing with vulnerable customers atm and will only direct me to online services, so I'm none-the-wiser.
So my question is, with my 24-month contract over, am I now considered a new customer again or an existing?  Is it an 'upgrade' if you take it within a signed up for contract?  Or still considered an 'upgrade' while in a rolling contract like I am now?  There's £125 difference in the answer!  Thank you

Your contract isn't 'over'. Its a 24m minimum term, and then continues until you give one month's notice. So it's an upgrade.
If you want the benefits of a 'new' contract, get your PAC, use it, port out and port in.

    Thanks macman.  In layman's terms....
    request pac code from EE.
    use  it = ?
Port out = give pac code to online company I'm getting new phone and EE contract deal with
Port in = start deal with them?

Incidently, has anyone had dealings with metrophone??  Their Trustpilot reviews seem good

You can't port from EE to EE, you need to move networks ... or try 'retentions' for a better deal

That's a shame about the phone. If you can afford it seriously consider a SIM only and buying the phone outright. There are some cracking phones available with brilliant cameras and lots of storage for less than half the price of your Samsung/iPhones. Search Amazon for Motorola/Nokia/Hauwei, there are other brands too. It may well work out cheaper over the length of 2 years. I always buy my phones outright and use SIM only deals.
