I must admit I have never seen anything like this. Why is the decking so high, have you lovely views if higher up? I would show this to planning dept and see what take they have on this before approaching this neighbour.
Looks like that's continuing the ground level at the top of the garden, while the actual ground drops steeply.

Again - if that decking has been there for a decade, and the main difference is the removal of a fence from it, then the planners can't do a sausage...
The OP states that the decking has been erected since they bought the house 18 months ago.

I hope you manage to resolve this.  Your neighbour sounds like an !!!!!!.
  • Another thing to be wary of is planting trees parallel to the boards as she may say you are attempting to block any view she may have. Did you say silver birch being one of them which can grow to 15-25m it could be interpreted as tit for tat which will get you nowhere. I would remove them from the side whilst this is going on

I can understand the OP wanting her privacy back - especially when the neighbour seems to be going out of their way to get a good view into the garden/property!

A decent, large sail will solve that in the interim.  Angle it right.

They must be mentally unhinged to want a view across your garden, why would they want that?
Perhaps it isn't the garden/property that she wants to see, but a wider view beyond it?

No, the op stated that the POOL with its surrounding decking has been there 10 years. The only new thing is a solid covering over the pool effectively.

What's beyond your garden, views of rolling hills?

I assume the decking is level with the house at the doorstep, but hasn't been tiered down with the slope.   It's like a jetty with the tide gone out!!
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

I don't know for sure, but could that 'only thing'  be seen as an integral part of the decking now, rendering the whole subject to planning control? Just a thought.
