We ended the month on 23rd and spent a total of £210 in June, £30 over budget.
I still don't think this was too bad so I am not going to beat myself up about it.
Sometimes we had to buy more expensive items due to the shops not selling their own ranges of goods anymore and price increases. Hopefully we will do better next month.

I'm over budget at £611.21/£550. Pretty annoyed with myself as I know some extra things have been purchased as treats. Some thing's have cost more too, like icing sugar, so that's pushed the cost up too. And some things were on special offer, like our shampoo, vegan sausage rolls and mayo so multiples were purchased. My dd is doing a food GCSE so we have had some special ingredients too! She has made a delicious fruit tart amongst other things so I won't complain too much. So over budget but still stocked up.
Congratulations to those under and for the rest of us, there is always next month.4 -
Chloris - just a thought but as your DD is doing a food GCSE would it be useful to have a separate budget for that which you can put in something each month so it's there when you need to buy stuff for it? I have separate pots for absolutely loads of things, it's all kept in one account but I keep track of what amount is for what on YNAB but could easily be done on a spreadsheet.

Hope you’re coping with the heatwave. What are you cooking for dinner tonight? I’m meant to be doing a bacon “carbonara”, but I really don’t fancy it in this heat. (It’s “carbonara” because we cheat and make it with cream cheese.)
I have another spend to declare. We went to L!dl last night, at about 6.30pm. No queue. Not a lot of veg left in store, although I did manage to buy spring onions, regular onions, carrots, mushrooms, an aubergine and peppers. Carrots were 49p/kg, which I reckon is a good price. Blew the budget on ice-cream (£1.49) and meatballs (£1.89). £10.45 spent, which has pushed us OVER by £4.32. My total spend for June is now£124.32/£120.
I’m tempted to declare, but won’t just yet in case something else comes up. We have plenty of food in stock: fresh, frozen, dried and canned, so shouldn’t need to buy anything else. It’s just my inspiration that is lacking at the moment... Hmmm.... I don’t fancy anything that requires slaving over a hot stove in the oven that is our kitchen. I might do a bread-and-cheese pudding for tonight, then make pastry in the cool of the morning and use the bacon in Breakfast Pie.... I can make the whole thing at 7am, bake it and serve it cold later.
- Pip (yes, I’ve convinced myself.)I am declaring at £124.32/£120.
No further spends on groceries and, since he got paid on Friday, DH has withdrawn the housekeeping for July for both of us from the bank. I’ll pay him back my share on Tuesday, when I’m paid.
I never did make the carbonara. Instead, I made the Bread-and-Cheese Pudding on Thursday then made Breakfast Pie in stages over Friday morning. I did make one mistake, though - I made my pastry on Friday morning and put it in the fridge to “rest” but left it there so long, it was like a rock when I tried to roll it out. I had to leave it out for over half an hour to soften back up.
See you in July.

Hi folks, also about £60 over. (Actual totals upstairs, and have to set off work shortly, so will look later or tomorrow).
It's down from last month, but can't really afford it to be so high every month for the foreseeable future.
My month ended on the 25th (Thursday) and starts on the 26th.
I've mealplanned in advance and going to try and look at this thread for meal inspiration. Having to eat mostly gluten free and choosing to eat vegan, can make things challenging.

I have been reading rather than posting, but I've just done all my totals for June. This is for two adults. I've just added up and I've got 15 meals in the freezer to give July a kick start.
Food spend: £94.92 This is for all food, but not booze.
Booze: £31.97 I am horrified by this. Half a bottle of whisky, five bottles of wine, and some Beck's Blue alcohol free beer. I need to cut this back, I think.
House: £9.47 This is loo roll, soap, bleach, laundry tablets, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid.
Other: £30.88 2 bags of compost, some geraniums for the garden, and a vine (perhaps next year the wine bill will be lower).
I was under budget (my budget was food only) but my bank account is set to round up to the nearest pound and those extra pennies roll into the next month's pot for food spending for July. There's just shy of £20 that has rolled over.
I think the pot for July will be about £95. This is just under £20 from the rounding up, and about £75 from doing surveys online. So it will be smaller than June's budget, but hey, I like a challenge!2023 Fashion on the Ration
