Hi all. I need to get laptops for my staff. They will only be used for work, so e mail, word, excel and access to documents on One Drive. I would welcome recommendations as to what I should be looking for.
Even if you are a minority of one, the truth is the truth.

What kind of business are you in? Will they need docking stations? Are they using them from home or also in an office (down the line!).
Also do you have a budget in mind?1 -

Can't really go wrong with Lenovo Thinkpads.1

This might be a good application for the Chromebook type of laptop, fast startup, very long battery life, cheap and light, no need to worry about operating system or virus issues, Microsoft apps free. Does the tasks you mention.0

We use https://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/, Some good deals on used and new. I would recommend i5 / i3 (8th gen up), 8gb RAM, 256gb SSD.2

Stuff putting wear and tear on your own laptop doing work for your employer especially when a lot of typing is involved.
