BT dropping Yahoo server

Options
hi I am furious with BT. Yesterday they sent me an email at 3am with no notice cutting my email address off as they were leaving yahoo and with no notice stopped my email and sending a complex email saying had to delete my yahoo and reload their own BT server !  Not only did it not work fully but I have lost all by sent box   I set up another email but can’t transfer my info and contacts without loading their new server! They are charging me £7.50 for my email address as I don’t have their broad band etc. I called offcom who said they were sorry and it was bad but they couldn’t do anything as they have no regulations regarding emails. Any ideas please?

Yeah that was announced in February:

And if you're not with BT, their charging you £7.50 for email was documented nearly two years ago, its not a new thing:

You'd do better, since it sounds like you've lost the lot anyway, to set up a Gmail/Yahoo/Outlook.com account (which are all free and will work on any internet provider) and use that instead.

I think you should be furious with yourself a. for failing to notice the change, as said, flagged for a considerable time and b. expecting BT to provide services for free when you have chosen to get Broadband elsewhere.
The advice to set up email on gmail or similar is good as it protects you from ever having to be dependent on your ISP again.
  • I'm having many problems with this change over - loss of Contacts, confusing layout, connections interrupted.  It may be that BTYahoo subscribers should be aware or what's happening but as an older person I find the finer details of all this too overwhelming.  I've not been charged just receiving very bad service.  I've been informed that everything will be sorted in 7 days - so in the meantime the members of the Dementia Carers group I run are not all getting my emails or I no longer have their addresses - this is causing as much stress as the coronavirus.  Friends (also BTYahoo subscribrs) tell me they have not yet experienced the change over so I've warned them about loss of emails, contacts lists, etc.  What is going on? Will I get compensation and what's more important a proper service - I'm so close to changing my server!!

Totally agree with all your comments (except compensation) - this is now a second rate service that BT are providing to someone who has paid their expensive charges for many years, but possibly not for much longer
