Sent probate application last Monday 6th July, by recorded delivery, received an email this Wednesday saying it had been granted, and we received the probate documents this morning Friday 17th.

Further to my post above, formal documents received today (17th) after email saying they were to be sent on the 14th.

I sent the application to HMCTS Probate in Harlow. I wonder if posters experiencing problems are using different offices?

We sent our paperwork to Harlow.
in our case the executor predeceased the testator so I wonder if it’s in a queue for less straightforward cases waiting for someone more senior.
i am not going to call them until the 8 weeks are up.

I'm a bit envious,  our house purchase has been stalled for months due to outstanding grant of probate further up the chain, all we get from solicitors that it's due any day now.
We're in the same boat, although there's no chain to speak of for us (just us, FTBs, purchasing the probate property). Probate was supposed to be received "within the next two weeks" four weeks ago. I am actually starting to think it might never be granted! Good luck with your purchase - let us know when (if!) you get moving!

It's so frustrating, isn't it! Every time I chase it, we are told the same thing and I'm so fed up with it. We put an offer on our house in January. I really didn't think it would take so long
Out of interest, have any of you got anywhere with your probate situations yet? I am also a FTB and had an offer accepted in March. Was told probate would be granted in 8 weeks, then I was told by someone at the EA it had gone through. Then I was told they were still waiting for it. I had no idea it would take this long and now I've heard it can take up to a year!

Nothing yet. I have asked several times for the date probate was submitted (for my own information, just to figure out how long we've been waiting), but heard nothing, which makes me think that the delay is not solely with the Probate Office. Will be chasing again this week but honestly I'm started to lose interest!

I would feel the sellers EA that you are starting to lose interest.
they can’t speed things up but they can provide infor e.g. submit date.

We were finally given the date earlier this week - it was only submitted last week! I think the vendors are using a probate solicitor and I get the feeling that the delay might be at that side of things. We just feel so deflated! Our mortgage offer has two months left to run and I just don't think probate will be granted before then (even if we get an extension on the mortgage offer I think we'll be cutting it fine). We're going to have a think about our possible options, including finding an alternative property, but first I need the weekend to just be grumpy and flumpy about it!

My sympathies, I know exactly what you mean on the grumpy thing. I sometimes need to take a few days before making a rational decision,  but at least you are facing up to it head on, not everyone can do that.
if it was me, I would be concerned about the lack of information flow as there is a long way to go on this. If they can’t be up front and honest about a simple date then how will the rest of the process go? Dropping your offer is an option if you are prepared to walk away. If it wasn’t my dream home I’d be considering dropping my offer due to difficulty of dealing with these people that might incur mortgage fees or taking time off, but do take a few days if you’re not feeling rational - I often need to let my emotion pass.

Been on the phone today for 48 mins.
ours has to go to a registrar as executor predeceased.
its been sat doing nothing for 8 weeks.
so I would say, chase them and if you are a buyer ask the seller to chase and report back as sometimes cases do languish

Sent will to Harlow on 7/7/20, email confirmation 24/7, received probate on 30/7. Just over 3 weeks  😎

This was spouse exemption, thus no iht, iht205 and probate both done online. There was a delay as they emailed to ask if they could delete some of the unfinished probate online applications and go ahead with the completed one, well how dumb, of course go ahead with the only completed one! though probably only a couple of days delay.
They even sent a free extra copy!

That’s good, I sent off IHT 400/421 (no tax due)  to HMRC and probate forms to Harlow on the 15th July,   Have heard nothing from either so assume everything is in order,  I wish you got an email update when they send the stamped 421 to Probate office.   I’m a week behind you so I hope it’s next week.  We have a potential cash buyer for the house so a quick return would be good.

Good to hear some cases are being processed quickly.  I applied online late June, sent documents to HMCTS Harlow and have the receipt for 07 July.  Then I received an email on July 20 that HMCTS had not received the supporting documents.  I called them that day and was told they were held up at the Harlow processing centre and this processing was taking up to 2 weeks, and the representative emailed the team leader, at Harlow I assume.  I called them again today (August 3) and was told the documents had still not been uploaded onto their system and they have no visibility of  what goes on before the documents are loaded.  It's worrying that they request the original copy of the will but things go into a black hole at the processing centre.
