CuiBono said: My energy supplier said 8000kwh would cost £1200 each year which doesn't seem so bad. That works out at 15p per KWh - For comparision, if I used 8,000KWh of gas, it would cost me around £200. My projection for gas this year is some 9500KWh at a cost of approx £240 for a three bed semi. But I also have the advantage of a solid fuel stove which helps to heat the property on a cold evening.Electricity is a darned expensive option when it comes to heating. Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.1 -
As others have said if you use 14500kwh for gas (presumably for both heating and hot water) then you need around 12000kwh of leccy to do the same job (due to the lower efficiency of a gas boiler)
If gas costs 3p/kwh x 14500 = £435 and leccy cost 12p/kwh x 12000 = £1440. Even using the daft comparison of 8000kwh of leccy 8000 x 12p = £960.
Even if you decided to install a heatpump it would cost you more to run than than gas (I know I've got one) and you'd have change all your radiators as wellNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers1
