Huge charge for cancelling BT broadband

Options
Hi as many of you out there im self employed and finding money is very tight right now. I want to cancel my BT broadband package but will be hit with a massive fee of £544 because the contract is not due to end until December 2021. I cannot afford the package I have now as circumstances have changed so much but cannot afford such a high fee to leave and move to a cheaper provider. Really at the loss about what steps to take next? Any ideas will help.

  • Have you talked to BT and explained the situation? If yes what did they say?
  • Yes I spoke to BT and the only other option they gave me was to downgrade my package but that couldn't be done until 3 months before the contract is due to end, nothing sooner.

Could be worth trying again as you will get a different CS .
But as per multiple identical posts you have a valid contract that needs paying .

There is no way to get out of your contract on these grounds.

We ditched BT for SKY after they sent an engineer to check the exchange to socket (only receiving about 4Mb on fibre). Intially informed we would not be charged, but then were (£180). We eventually did get this back, but what a hassle it was.

Time people started to understand what a contract is,BT will have invested there time and effort with you thats why they will hold you to it.

You can get out of contract if you are moving to a house where BT do not supply service such as a brand new estate.
