TECOBUY UK

I purchased a new mobile phone from Tecobuy UK on Friday 17th April 2020 with my credit card using PayPal. They are rated 4 stars on Trust Pilot. I received a confirmation e-mail of the order on the same day. On Monday 4th May I received an e-mail informing me that my item was packed and ready to ship. The following day I received an e-mail to say that my order had been dispatched from the warehouse. I am still waiting and it is now over a month since I placed my order. I have now read the appalling reviews on Trust Pilot (which I realise I should have done before placing the order!) and am concerned that I will not receive my new mobile phone, and if I do how will I know it is a genuine product. Please could you advise me how to proceed. I have never used this forum before so apologies if this is not the correct place for my post.

Have you contacted them?1

Genuine check IMEI .Your basic problem is non UK company and phone may be non UK spec .At a guess post/ delivery from China area is a bit slower than normal .1

They are in Hong Kong.0

There may well be a delay at customs, especially if they are short staffed due to Covid.1

Rule of thumb. Trust pilot is useless now. Great companies are getting poor reviews and rubbish ones are 5 star due to fake reviews.Life in the slow lane3

Grey imports from Hong Kong can sometimes take a month or more even in normal times.

DREADFUL, AVOID THIS COMPANY
I also purchased a mobile phone from Tecobuy, which took ages to arrive, but did eventually. developed a fault within the warranty period. No problem, I thought, since Tecobuy offer a UK-based warranty workshop on their web page. Except they do not, and this is a lie. TECOBUY INSIST THAT I SHIP THE PHONE BACK TO HONG KONG, AT MY EXPENSE.
1. Shipping overseas is expensive, relative to the cost of repair;
2. IT IS ILLEGAL to ship a used battery overseas.
To return the phone, I would have to remove the battery from the battery myself, invalidating the warranty anyway. So the next step, presumably, is that they would possess my phone, and would be able to demand what they like to carry out the repair and return shipment.
This is clearly a deliberate strategy to avoid warranty claims.

It is against many couriers T&Cs to ship batteries however thats certainly doesn't make it illegal. There may be some world countries that don't allow the import of used batteries but they will certainly be in the minority. Couriers themselves are rather confused about the matter as if you ask them if its ok to ship a portable electronic device 75% of the time they say fine and a few will say you cannot because it contains a battery.
As the secondhand sales of electronic devices on eBay has never ground to halt in reality people send them and no one says anything.0
