When should your contract start

Just switched to an O2 SIM only tariff and they started my contract the following day but my SIM didn’t arrive until the fifth day following due, presumably, to a weekend and the impact on Royal Mail of coronavirus. Interestingly the following weekend was the BH so that would have added an extra day. Complained to O2 and they stood their ground, the charges are valid and in line with our T&Cs etc.

I worked out that if you took out a top of the range tariff with the latest iPhone this practice could see O2 pocket £25 during which the owner would still be paying their previous provider at the same time. I accept it’s usually going to be a lot less than this as, more often than not, the SIM and/or phone do arrive the next day or the day after but it just seems wrong. I wouldn’t pay for Sky from the day I phone up to book, I’d pay from the day the engineer fits the dish and connects the box. Same with renting a flat - I’d want the keys in my hand and access to the property before I part with money. It goes against the fundamental principles of paying for services.

I appreciate there are bigger things going on in the world just now. Am I overthinking this?

So a limitless sim with O2 is max price £35 a month so how did you arrive at you would be losing £25?  Try a fiver! and  just £2 for a 5gb plan sim.

I said “With the latest iPhone”

You can pay £165 per month on a 12 month contract. But it’s the principle more than the amount.

    Just me I guess.

So which service provider doesn't charge like this? As far as I know they all do.

So regardless of the phone you are still paying £35 a month for the top tariff and that's the part of the deal you will be losing out on. The cost of the phone has to be paid in full and you cant take money off the phone just because the sim did not arrive the next day.
