Hello diary readers
I thought an update wouldn’t go amiss. I rarely have time to post but I have decided to stay indoors as much as possible as it has been a horribly busy week at work and I feel rather tired. Apart from taking DD to work later today and then my secon Covid jab after that I do not plan to venture anywhere. I do not intend to go to the shops at all. We have food enough for the rest of the week and what we do not have we shall do without.
So let’s get the bad out of the way. My weight has ballooned, my sugars are high and I am thoroughly disgusted at myself. But I can’t bring myself to get back on the straight and narrow.
I have been so busy at work, we are short staffed so have had to take on extra work which has really overwhelmed me somewhat. I know it is relatively temporary, but really hard on one’s ability to stay on an even keel. I start earlier and finish later and it’s still not enough. On the plus side I had my first salary with a slight increase in take home pay, which I have allocated straight to debt payment.
Debt payments have been ticking over aided by a recent balance transfer offer. This morning I decided to see what the MSE Eligibility Checker said as to my chances of a 0% BT offer. I was most surprised to see it say 95% on Virgin. A couple of months or so ago it said similar but when I went to Virgin directly and used their eligibility check it said I had no chance! So I was really surprised when I did the same this time, Virgin came back and said I would be accepted if I applied. Now I know that there are no guarantees, and even though they say I will be accepted, the computer may still well say “No” but I thought it was worth a shot. BT’s are the only credit I will be pursuing so even if they decline, I won’t be running off to try again for another few months. So anyway the outcome was that they will be considering the application and will get back to me. I really hope I get it as I would love to bring my DFD closer. At the moment, I have made good strides and have possibly brought it forward to May 2023, which is not bad considering when I started on this journey it was December 2023. But I want to do better. So if I get this offer, its 0% for 26 months, which if I have done my calculations correctly will really help loads in getting DFD a few months sooner.
So a balance update (have separated balances even though there are a couple on the same card as this is how I am keeping track of it)- HSBC @ 28.9% - Balance £192.66 (Fingers crossed this is finished this month)
- MBNA @ 20.93% - Balance £4946.82 (this is what I hope to transfer with Virgin)
- MBNA @ 20.93% - Balance £4482.07
- MBNA @ 20.93% - Balance £2202.25 (this one does not go down as on low interest promotional (due to higher interest going off first) (This is what I hope to transfer with Virgin)
- HSBC @ 0% - £6894.30
- Barclay @ 18.5% - £6171.61
Last night DD and I went to the cinema to see a movie we both wanted to see. It was so nice and felt so normal. We don’t go often under normal circumstances so it was a real treat. And after the week I had had it was lovely to sit in their recliner chairs and just be entertained.
Not looking forward to my jab later today. I had to go on antibiotics after the first jab and I am really worried about blood clots for the second. But I have decided to go and get it done. I haven’t told my mum I am having it as she is so against the jabs. Fingers crossed it all goes well
Looking forward to the BH, will be going to OH gym as a guest for a steam, sauna and jacuzzi. I don’t bother with the gym itself LOL..I just head straight to the indoor and outdoor jacuzzi. I just want to relax. I plan to make an afternoon of it.
At some point, I really must fit in some work and chores but I really don’t want to do either so we will see. My lazy gene is far superior to discipline one LOL
Right that’s enough for now, hope you are all keeping safe and well x

Sorry to hear you required antibiotics after your 1st jab, @Narola1976 That must have been a nasty reaction. I had a sore arm which lasted a long time, but no infection or anything. Even now, 2 months afterwards, I can feel a bit of tenderness in the jab site when I have my arm in a certain position, often when knitting or playing the piano. 2nd dose on Monday night. That's not how I would ever have expected to spend a bank holiday evening! Grateful to be having it done though. I also had a dieting blip between Easter & early May but thankfully when I finally braved the enemy scales, I was only up by 100g. Goodness knows how, as I'd been a proper piglet. I can only put it down to having been physically busy in the garden & shifting stuff about endlessly to make room for the decorator & carpet fitters.

So nice to get your updates and hear that you are still following your plan to pay off your debt. It is hard to stay on track over a long time so you are doing really well. I hope that you get the balance transfer so that you can bring that debt free date forward even more. Don't have any tips regarding your diet/weight loss. I have been the same weight my entire life and pretty much eat what I want. It is definitely in the genes. You don't sound like a lazy person to me, sounds like you work hard and take care of your home and family. Hopefully you will be able to eat more fresh healthy food now that the summer weather is finally arriving. Let us know how you get on with the BT.1

Oh my gosh! Just had an email from Virgin to say my application has been approved!!! They have given me a credit limit of £10000 which means I can clear one MBNA card and at least half of the second! I am so happy. I need to do the sums etc and will report back but I just had to come on here and tell you all.Starting Total in September 2019 = £38287.77

Well, Narola, that shows how sometimes things unexpectedly work in our favour. Anything that helps you get rid of that debt more quickly has to be a winner.
