Great going on the low carb and low sugar diet.  Another friend was telling me this week that she never eats breakfast and she has never struggled with her weight.  She says she is one of those people who eat to live and is not really bothered about food.  I love good food and  have a good appetite but have to monitor my calorie intake to keep within a healthy weight. Interesting on the fasting diet.  I have heard of that where you only eat within an 8 hour window.  I suppose you can get used to it but I love my porridge and fruit in the mornings. Good luck anyway.

  • Thanks @enthusiasticsaver, it is certainly hard to resist the yummy stuff and thanks to DD there are loads of goodies in the house which I have managed to resist. Fingers crossed I don’t give in.
So another £12.50 off the Argos card today. £5 from surveys and £7.50 from FB sales. Chipping away at it. I cannot wait until it’s gone. I am chomping at the bit to get started on HSBC. It’s an awful card, how I let it get to this I will never know.

    Hello everyone

It’e been a few weeks not posting but not to worry I have been staying on the path.  Today is a very good day:

I am so happy to know that Argos is finally paid off. It was such a hard slog. I have in 15 months paid over £2700. This was my highest interest debt at 29.9%. Mind you HSBC is not far off at 28.9%. This is my next job and if all goes well it will be paid off in 9 months. I am starting my first over payment to HSBC this month. So instead of the usual £110,  they will be getting £300. I have had loads of FB sales this month, just selling odds and sods. I have not added this to debt payment for this month as I felt I wanted to pad the grocery and Christmas funds instead and try and give a little to the other categories. While debt payment is important, so is debt prevention. It has been 15 months since I have used a credit card, 12 months since I was out of the overdraft. I feel I have made so much progress and I am so proud of myself.

This month we had a tiny, and I mean a tiny bonus, which after tax was only about £190, so I did send some extra money to my mum. OH has given £200 towards Christmas food and £150 towards DD’s gifts so I am pleased with that. The tumble dryer has died and he is replacing it. Looking to spend about £300. I haven’t rushed out to get one, as we are not desperate for it. Maybe the January sales might have something.

So a round up of the figures then (not including Argos payment today as will include that at end of December when all the payments have gone out and interest has been applied) :

    Staring debt: £35156.29
    Current Total: £30872.56
Amount paid so far: £4283.73 - 12% of total debt paid

This is more than I hoped for.  I hoped I would get to 11% by the end of the year and I have smashed that target. I think I might even make 13% by end of December.

Also can report I completed by 1p savings x2 which means I saved £1350 this year, half of it is for Christmas the other half is for my ticket home when it is safe to travel, probably 2022.

So with finances out of the way for now, I am pleased to report that I have stayed on my low carb plan for the whole of November. This has meant my sugars have been well controlled. I have lost about 6lbs this month as well. The focus has been my sugars but I am pleased with the weight loss as well. Just need to keep going. A character flaw on fine is to start like a bomb and then fizzle out so really need to focused. There are a couple of quotes that is really spot on for me both in terms of diet and finances:

“ Commitment means staying loyal to what you said you were going to do long after the mood you said it in has left you”

“ You will never always be motivated, so you must learn to be disciplined”

So that’s where I am at.I will try and pop in again, but next couple of weeks are going to be hectic as covering a couple of staff’s work, but then in a couple of weeks it will be my turn to be off from work. I can’t wait.

    Have a good week

  • Brilliant result Narola. I thought I hadn't seen you on here for a few weeks but you have stayed focused both on weight and money so you should be very proud of yourself. Maybe close the Argos card down now?
