What is this pipe?

Options
Good morning everyone,

apologies if this is in the wrong section, I’m am trying to identify what a pipe is going into my front boundary wall so that I can contacts the relevant people, I want to know if it is dangerous as when the council are mowing the grass verge it gets knocked and the brickwork has started falling out around it I’ve attached a picture :)

Thanks

Does the end of the pipe actually disappear into the ground?  If not it's possibly intended to aid drainage from raised garden behind.

I think it goes down quite deep into the grass verge I have moved some soil from around it but not got to the bottom, I’ve got no idea where it goes on the otherside, I’ll attach a pic.

    thanks

Can you work on the basis of elimination, where does the gas come into the property, where does the water come in, electric, telephone?

Purely guessing, my starting assumption would be it was a gas pipe because water is normally buried to stop it freezing and electric and telephone are normally buried or overhead. You see plenty of properties with gas pipes entering close to ground level. But it could be electric or telephone, using the pipe as mechanical protection.

Beside even if you don't know what it is, you could assume it's a service, treat it carefully and place some bricks or something around it to protect it from future damage.

Thank you for the advice, will put some rockery stones around the base to stop it getting damaged further, I’ve got a feeling that it’s Gas or electric as my water comes in the other side of the house and my telephone is overhead cable.

    Thanks!

Do you have cable tv in your area ? I notice there are some repairs done in the street. You could follow the tarmac joins and see what is on manholes they pass

I would be surprised if it's a gas supply.  As the OP says, it's very prone to potential damage.

Dig further down in your garden and see where it goes ,it might have coloured tape above it saying " gas pipe below "

I also think it's gas. It looks like gas barrel pipe.
