Broadband contract

Options
We live in the countryside with poor broadband.  We changed to WiFi broadband which is better but still poor.  We were approached by a company who said they would provide cable broadband to the area if enough people signed up. We signed for an 18 month contract.  Since then cable has been laid by another company and our neighbours have signed up.  As the company we signed with are still no closer to providing us what they promised, can we go with the other company? Can the original company take us to court?

I think its more likely you put your name on a waiting list for this first company and they'd contact you if they were providing the service.  Putting your name on a waiting list is just an expression of interest, doesn't commit to anything.
If you've never given this first company any bank details and nothing's been taken (and if its been more than 18 months anyway), then what you do is arbitrary to them.
