Car hire cancellation

Options
I’ve just received an email from Ryan air informing me that my flight to France has been cancelled due to the coronavirus and that my money would be fully refunded
I had also hired a car for my trip
I had hired it via Rentalcars.Com which is partnered with Ryanair
Although I’ve been able to cancel the booking I am being charged a £37 cancellation fee by Rentalcars.com
which I don’t think is reasonable to pay, particularly as I had no other option than to cancel the booking because of Ryanair .
Although the charge is within the terms and conditions I believe on this occasion it’s wrong
what are your thoughts ?

Were the flights and car rental booked together off the back of the same reservation (i.e. did you click thru to rentalcars.com during the booking flow of the RyanAir flight reservation being made) or within 24 hrs of the flight reservation being made (i.e. a follow up marketing email within 24hrs)?    If so this might constitute a ‘package’ by definition and you have additional refund rights under the Package and Linked Travel Regulations.
