.....simples....all front line NHS staff should get a free car of their choice.... :)
No they shouldn't. Getting a bit tired of this "all NHS staff should get everything for free because they work in a hospital and go to work to do the job they chose to do." The majority of NHS staff have very little to directly do with Covid-19, many report their departments are dead because nobody is coming to hospital and some actually feel embarrassed by all the hero worship.
    Bah humbug

That might be an option, but since the change in the NHS pension scheme it could effect your pension negatively.
Part of the 2015 changes meant the pension is now a career average rather than final salary based on the last 3 years or so, so now sacrificing some salary will obviously have an effect on it.

But I seem to think since 2017 there is tax and NI benefits if you take a "ultra low emisson" car on a sacrifice scheme as the government had taken some of the tax and NI advantages away on anything else (apart from school fees), so it could be a bit of a win/lose for someone on a low emission vehicle.

You don't think this was written tongue in cheek, MinuteNoodles?
  • My friend did the salary sacrifice, but caught when the rules changed  and it ended up costing far more than expected as her tax code was reduced.
I'm not entirely sure just what the issue was but she really struggled until she was TUPE'd and able to get rid of it earlier.

as with all these salary sacrifice schemes, there is always a price to be paid - as already mentioned, it can have an impact on your pension which is the main reason i don't engage in these schemes

NHS employees have a website offering discounts on many items. Just used it for new iPhone :) . They have options to sell lease and buy cars.
    Details here https://healthservicediscounts.com/

I would if it weren't for how much it's plastered over social media and in comments sections.
