I had 2 flight cancelled by Expedia begining of march due to Corona. They wrote to me on email and said they would be in touch shortly, I have t since then been able to get hold of them except for the customer service bot, which is there to prevent me from accelerating my refund claim. Does anyone know what I should do to get the money back, should I take them to a small claims court, and does anyone have their address . They owe me 700 pounds over the two flights and they have set their processes up to deliberately prevent refund claims

Expedia didn't cancel your flights, the airline did.  Who was the airline?  It's likely Expedia are waiting on the airline to process the refund before processing a refund for you.

Whilst it may seem like they are deliberately making it hard for you to get in touch, or are flat out avoiding you.... it's just a case of the sheer volume of passengers that will want to be getting in touch with them.  All of European aviation has effectively stopped for April, May, and quite likely June as well. No airline or travel agent would have the capacity to quickly deal with that.

You are correct though that you're entitled to a refund.  If you are fed up of waiting for Expedia/your airline then in the first instance you can ask your card provider for a chargeback and/or Section 75.  Small Claims court is another avenue, but to be honest that will be significantly slower than just waiting for Expedia.

In trying to get my own refund sorted, this is on the Expedia website regarding refunds:

    Refund timelines

Because we are receiving a large number of cancellation requests, refunds may take longer than normal. We apologize for the wait and we appreciate your patience.

    • If you booked a hotel, car, or activity, it may take up to 30 days to receive your refund.
    • For flights, most refunds are issued within 8 weeks. Some refunds could take a bit longer, depending on the airline.

Under normal circumstances, here's what you should know about refunds:

    How it works

    • Expedia may take up to 24 hours to process your refund.
    • Your refund will be processed to your original method(s) of payment
    • If you paid for your entire booking with points, any cancellation fees will be deducted from your points.
    • If you paid for your booking with points and a credit card, any cancellation fees will be deducted from the points portion of your refund first, followed by the credit card portion, if necessary.
    • Your Expedia refund receipt email contains details regarding your refund amount, how, and when you'll get your refund.
    • Refunds for low-cost airline tickets are handled by third parties (namely the specific low-cost airline, not Expedia.) Please contact the respective third party regarding refund timelines and related questions.
    • Once your refund is processed, your financial institution may take up to 7 days to post the credit to your account, and up to 2 billing cycles to show the credit on your statement.
  • Thanks for the responses, I now apparently have a credit with 2 No airlines, I will let you know how I get on

I have been contacted by expedia, strange coincidence have to say, they wrote to tell me that expedia had confirmed with the airlines that  change fees would be waived, it also mentions that the airline is setting the policies for how you redeem the credit. My problem is when i have contacted the airline websites, i can not find a way to redeem this credit as it tells me to contact the agent who i booked through, also you can not get hold of an advisor for love nor money, therefore I would ask expedia what should i do, as the contract i set up for travel was with expedia in the first instance.  Seems like a further runaround to me. My flights wer cancelled before the firts flight of the 16/03/20, this is well over 2 months with no resolution so far.

My flights were June.  I had Expedia tell me to get in touch with the airline and then Virgin telling me to contact Expedia.  In the end, as I was going back and forth, I have instigated a chargeback with my CC (since even Virgin's partner airline have confirmed they are not operating).
  • It looks like my contract is with expedia, they took my money, so if i dont get ant responses from them I will have to take them to small claims court, what else can i do.

You could do what bagand96 suggested  and claim via card.
